Training ideas?

Hi there.

We're having our new KM C6501 installed on Monday with a Creo. I'm also getting Adobe Acrobat X Pro and PitStop Professional.

As our fiscal year comes to a close in July, my supervisor wants me to use up some professional development money before we lose it. She's already budgeted in more training time for me on the Creo down the road, although I've worked on a Creo and doubt I'll need much more than the initial training.

So, do you think getting extra training on the Acrobat and/or PitStop is a good idea? Or maybe a general digital printing program of some sort? What suggestions do you guys have - if you could train in anything, what would it be and why would it be beneficial to you?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions!

Well, as a PitStop trainer I would always suggest PitStop training would be a good idea. But we'd need to talk a few and see how much training you really need. Probably not much unless you are starting from scratch.

Hi Matt.

Thanks for the reply. I've used both Acrobat Pro and PitStop Pro, but it was over five years ago, so I'm sure it's changed with new features added that I'm not aware of.

I think that I should probably wait and see how up-to-speed I am after I get the programs to know whether it would be worth more training.

Right now, I could schedule a general digital class, maybe color management or project management, something like that. But you make a good point about how much I might already know about the two programs. I've been using the trial version of Acrobat Pro and it's a bit different from what I'd used in the past, but not a lot. I need to play with it to see what more I can learn on my own.

Right, figure out what you know, what you're comfortable with and what else you would like to know. Depending on how much of a tinker you are you may be able to do it on your own from your own past experience. Depending on which version you are coming from there are quite a few changes that may throw you for a loop or two. Start with the color management class or the project management. You can always pick up an hour here and there with PitStop and Acrobat.
