Trying to save an .ai file to a pdf

QBot, did you get this resolved? AI fires are notorious for getting really large really fast. Part of the issue is embedding vs linking the images. Try changing this and see if it helps. Also, if it has multiple artboards or pages, try doing one page at a time.

If you are scaling the images in Illy, try scaling them in Photoshop first then place them at 100% in Illy. You can always place them in Illy to get position and scale of what you want, but then go back and fix all the placed files so there are 100%, which will make the Illy file or even the PDF or any other file exported no bigger than it absolutely has to be.
