4 or more colors pdf to single color pdf

what is the best way to convert 4 or more color pdf into single color or composite...

right now we are just opening the pdf and print into compoite gray and output the file thro prinergy or will refine the file in prinergy and convert mapping all the other colors into black and output...

Is there is any other option in prinergy to convert 4 color or more into single color like mapping the spot color into process options..

Or any other best options to convert or let me know the softwares which convert 4 or more color into single (composite) perfectly

Are you talking about a CMYK + Possible Spot, or 4 or more Spot colours such as in a packaging job?

In the context of colour composite to grayscale, please define "perfectly"

If you want to convert CMYK+Spots or CMYK to K-only, you can do this in Prinergy quite easily.
Set up a Refine Process Template that
- converts spots to process
- has Overprint Handling turned on
- defines the destination profile as a gray profile (there are a number supplied on the Prinergy ICC profile folder).

You can do it in Photoshop. Paste the each separation in the corresponding channel.

Hey, You can do it in Adobe Acrobat Professional > Advance Menu > Print Production > Convert Colors Tool > This is a fantastic utility, you can select the objects you want to convert like Images, Text, Smooth Shades etc. Select the convert to profile > For Device Gray select DotGain 10% or if you have yours select that. Preserve Black Option should be Checked On to preserve 100% K as it is.

This is the simplest way of doing color conversion in PDFs.
