Windows sharing stops on 2000 server

I think this a different problem from the earlier thread. Last week our HP server stopped allowing any windows machines to connect to it. All my Mac (ExtremeZIP) connections are working fine. and the shares all reamain active according to the computer manager but anytime we try to log onto the machine we get the "Share unavailable you may not have permission...." message. Of course I checked permissions everyone has what the need to log on. It feels like the machine is not accepting the log on and not even acknowledging it since I dont even get a name/password prompt.

Anyone have any suggestions?

TIA
