Problems with a RYOBI PDS-E AUTO

Not quite sure if this is the right forum since my problem is at the press, but since we got are sending CIP imformations to set the presses etc I get dragged in to the "computer" issues in printing.

The problem we have is that we seem to have a memory (or other) I/O problem with reading controlstrips at the press.
Measureing the strip from bar 2 works fine till bar 13 (about half the strip) then the data seems to be way off. Measuring from the second half gives credible values.
We inspected the wire band in the Rail Guide, and find no cracks (this used to be the problem on old CD carrages or laptop displays that went unstable).
There is no drit or dust that makes the scanner slip or jerk.

So it seems it is the amount of data that is a problem. The RYOBI presses have some GUI that runs on a windows shell. And I am suspecting:
cable, the IC connecting to the cable on the rail or a sowtware (posibly wintel hardware) problem.

Has anyone experienced a related issue? would love to hear your thoughts and advice so I can get back to normal.

(we figured we can regulate half the keys at a time as we lock down the ones with suspect readings)

OK another theory

Been at the press table today again and it seems as soon as there is a sliver of white before the scanner eye as one measures the reading is faulty. I don't get error, and it's not like the eye one that can take any amount of white till first reading.
Could somone with a DS-E confirm that if the reading starts to the left of first patch the device only manages to measure ≈13 sets of patches?

Still keeping system under scrutiny, not ruling out I/O error.

Not so lucky :( still having trouble. Can at times seem to register a credible value when no white is visible, but there is some other problem lurking here.

Take the cover off and clean gears and wheels, one of the wheels is connected to a potentiometer that is what keeps count of the distance traveled, techon has a remanufacture process if it needs service, I know in states they will give you a loaner when you send it off, change out ribbon cable first because it is cheaper fix... We trashed ribbon cable and connected serial cable direct to CPU and manually move the head now
