Heidelberg Prepress Interface Parallel port dongle problem

Our Prepress Interface 3.3 parallel port dongle has been intermittently been undetected by the license manager for the past couple of years
usually, removing and reconnecting it has fixed the problem, but now it seems to be completely unresponsive
I have been through all the usual troubleshooting including re-installing drivers, using the cleanup utility and SuperPro Medic etc
Parallel port is functioning correctly and I also tried a USB-Parallel converter and tested using SuperPro Medic on another computer (it was still not detected)
Heidelberg are asking for a small fortune to upgrade to Prinect Production Manager

Any other ideas would be appreciated how to get it working again or other options for Ink Key setting on a Heidelberg 74-8

Hi Magnus,

How is the humidity where the Prepress Interface PC is? I used to have PI with a parallel dongle and had the same issue you described periodically. Sometimes removing the dongle, placing in the palm of your hand, and closing your fingers around it (making a fist) for several minutes helped.

Best regards,
pd

I'll give that a try, but the humidity is not too low, it's just past the end of summer in Western Australia, RH has been around 40-60% and we have evaporative cooling in the factory.

*Edit* - That didn't work, I didn't hold much hope for it
