As you have made this post, I think it would be a safer option to call a technician for now and sit with him through the process so next time you can do it alone. It is not insanely hard but can be messed up.

Unfortunately - as far as I know - you can not do that. The best way to eliminate this problem is setting up your vectors in illustrator, your rasters in photoshop, and put them together in indesign. Why would you want to put a vector into photoshop just to get the vector information back anyway?

Go back to your 'Preferences' and make sure that 'Object Selection by Path Only' is unticked in 'Selection & Anchor Display'. Obviously if you have unfilled objects they can only be selected/moved by path anyway.

This is what I do. I print a laser of the indd file - I can always cancel the print in my print manager, but most of the time I need a laserprint anyway - and then print it as ps. This way the right filename should pop up.
