The 5501 is definately more versatile in terms of stock. We demo'd a 700 and it could not handle any of the textured stocks that we use. The 5501 is fantastic on textures and really gets into the dips.

Having tested both the xerox 1000 and the km8000 I would say that the xerox is a much more versatile beast. The km would not print on our textured stock, was more fussy about duplexing stock than even the km6000 which we also tested. Also the km8000 that we demoed was making the print on...

Have canon bumped up their prices. Last year at ipex the 6000 which was then the current machine for canon was being offered for around £50k.

As far as I'm aware the km8000 is avaiable from KM direct, Danwood and Balreed. I would get a quote from all three if I were you.

I can fully back up Josh on that. Basic km8000 is under £100k. I've had several quotes, unfortunately it's just not the machine for us.

I'd be interested to know if anyone (danwood included) are selling the xerox 800 in the UK as every dealer I've spoken to swears blind that they can only sell the 1000 in the UK.

That's bizzare. I understand selling machines with reduced features, slowed down and with crappy rips, but essentially running different firmware that doesn't work as well really sounds a bit crappy.

Isn't that machine based on the xerox docucolor 250/252 range. In which case the registration would be the same?

We use a foliant laminator with our 5501. It works better on the KM than it did on our xerox dc250. We sometimes had pealing edges with the xerox when we had dense toner coverage but the km output doesn't seem to suffer from the same problems.
