    Matching Color

I'd go back to whoever helped you set up the G7 qualifications and explain your issues. We had been having serious trouble matching dark blue/reflex blue range -- they were all coming out way too purple. Our color expert helped us change the cyan press curve and it made a big difference. We...

Exporting pdfs without a specific spot color

I ended up making a new action in Pitstop and setting the FPO color to transparent. I was just looking to avoid that step, but this'll work fine. Thanks for the responses. And these jobs happened to come in with both printing and FPO copy in the same text box, so I couldn't move the FPO to...

Exporting pdfs without a specific spot color

I've got FPO copy in a file set to a specific "FPO Ignore" spot color so we can ignore the color in Rampage. That way we don't have to actually delete copy from a file to make it FPO -- it just goes away in the RIP. Anyone know of a way I can generate a pdf from either Quark or InDesign and...

Customers... don't ya just love 'em?

I've found that the easiest way to teach someone about the details of spot vs. process, trim & bleed, and general job construction is to take them to the pressroom. Show someone how a spot color will have it's own plate and cylinder and how it comes together at the end of the press and they'll...

Angle for spot screen over process

We ended up running the spot screen at the same angle as the yellow, and it worked out fine. You can see a tiny bit of a moire in some areas of the screen, but not a lot. Thanks again for all the advice! Not only makes for interesting reading, but it really saved our bacon this time around...

Angle for spot screen over process

Thanks for all your help, guys. I think our options are to start with the spot screen at the same angle as the yellow, and if that looks bad, we'll run up another plate at 30° and see how it looks. It would be nice if Rampage had the ability to show me a screened composite, but no such luck...

Angle for spot screen over process

Here's a design technique I've never seen before: I've got a 5 color job with large fields of spot PMS 144 and some 4/C photos. No problem, right? But in one area, they've got a swoosh of the 144 laying over top of part of a 4/C photo, and the swoosh is set at 60% opacity in InDesign. Am I...

Need opinions on workflow & Rip

I'd go with Rampage -- fast, bulletproof, easy to use, trapping is excellent.

Rampage and Fuji going seperate ways?

We work with Fuji/Rampage, and I've never had any problems dealing directly with Rampage. Their service is excellent, and the product is fantastic!

    Charging for non-PDF files?

I can barely get many of our clients to send native files correctly, never mind press-ready pdfs! Besides, I'm not in a huge hurry to make my department obsolete. Fixing whacked files is our job security!

    Corrupt Fonts

Not sure if this is a PC/Mac issue, or a ZIP/Stuffit issue, but I occasionally receive fonts from clients that unstuff as Zero KB Unix files. Everything else in the client's stuffed or zipped file expands correctly, but I get corrupt fonts. It doesn't happen with all the jobs we get in, and it...

    Quark 8, 7, 6, etc.

The JoJo XTension is now a drag n drop app -- opens both Quark and InDesign files in the correct version, including Q8 and CS4. We're going that route to avoid and confusion and conflicts. JoLauterbach Software GmbH

    Quark 8, 7, 6, etc.

We've just gotten our copies of Quark 8. <shudder> Any opinions on whether or not we need to keep opening Q6 files in 6, Q7 files in 7, and Q8 files in 8? I'd much rather just run with 8 on everything. Has anyone noticed any font issues or anything like that? We use Rampage and get a mix of...
