    Distiller

    Oops! I meant for X-4.

    Distiller

Not that I'm ever going to use it, but it doesn't look like distiller has a default compliancy setting like X-3 and X-1a do? Am I right or missing something?

    Ct/lw

I have an old Dalim workflow that uses Scitex CT/LW regardless of the input file. Of course this is an Adobe world for the most part, but I can't afford to go to a new workflow just yet. I seem to be having better luck with PDF/X-4 (live) than X-1a or X-3 (both flattened) when it comes to...

Best Proofers to use with Rampage Workflow

I'm was a staunch EFI with E9800 advocate, but now I'm at a place that has an Oris ColorTuner along with 2 9800's. Both Rips are confusing as hell to linearize and calibrate if done by the book, but the CGS tech guys helped e a lot via phone and e-mail without ever charging me a dime. Whatever...

    Image Compression

That's what I'm saying Matt. If I were the designer or were accepting only native files then 1.5 or 1.6 would be the way to go. Since I the only way I can make sure I get half way decent files is to require they are X-compliant after running the designers run them through the preflight profile I...

    Image Compression

Leonard, I would prefer X compliance just because of our customer base. That way they can preflight their own PDFs through my Acrobat Preflight profile. Is there a preflight profile available for 1.5 or 1.6? I am starting to lean toward X-4 though.

    InDesign Preflight

I'm trying an X-4 as we speak. The X-3 showed up with those "flattening lines" that go away when you uncheck "Smooth Line Art" and "Smooth Images" in the page display but they are showing up in the Rip preview. I'm throwing the pages on a plate to see what happens.

Thanks Matt. I went with PDF/X-3:2002

    Image Compression

Easy one. What is the general consensus on Zip versus JPEG compression in the Adobe PDF Export Presets? I've always done ZIP, but I'm reading a lot about JPEG at maximum quality being adequate for 175lpi. The same file with the images uncompressed (test) was 381mb, with Zip it was 91mb and Jpeg...

    InDesign Preflight

Acrobat Preflight Acrobat Preflight Thanks for all of the thoughts. I dug deeper and found it. Yes, the Indy live preflight is a bit understated. The biggest issue I see was on a file I received. To keep this simple and our terms, for what it said was wrong and the way it said it, the designer...

    InDesign Preflight

Anyone know there is some guide in LAYMEN'S terms that explain what all of these things mean in the Preflight Control Panel? As we know (from Adobe PDF Presets), the "out of the box" settings aren't always the best ones to use. I work at a place where someone used to tell people what buttons to...

    InDesign Preflight

I'm taking somewhat of a poll. I have created a custom Adobe PDF Preset for exporting out of InDesign. That also creates a .joboptions file from Distiller, which can be exported to to a network location an d them loaded in to another work station's Indesign Presets. I have also built a...

    Metrix, Preps and Workflows

Is anyone using Metrix for imposition with Apogee-X. If so, are you using as content inclusive or exclusive when imported from production planning? PDF or JDF?

    Metrix, Preps and Workflows

Thanks Thanks Going from Metrix via JDF to Prinergy would be ideal for us since we already have Metrix. That would save me having to upgrade Preps. I have a technical question though. How do I get Metrix to recognize my .eps color bars? Do I really have to open, crop and export them to .pdfs?
