    Onyx RIPs and Mac?

I've never used Caldera, but we do have a Mutoh printer and plotter with Onyx, as well as PC based EFI for our Epson, and 2 PC based RIPs for our film setters. We also use Macs for all our production. We have no issues with integrating the Onyx into our workflow. For my 2 cents, I would bite the...

Upgrading from Fuji Xerox 700DCP to Versant 80

We just did the 700 to V80 Upgrade. The 700 was our backup and our 770 was our main machine. Now the 770 is our backup. We were sceptical, but are very happy with the V80. It runs much smoother with less issues (once you understand how it works) Our staff was able to adapt to the changes quite...

    Accuset 800 PPD

we use the "LH Linotronic930 V3.3 J" for both AGFA Accuset 800 Plus and the AGFA Select Set 7000 - both with Eagle RIPS. Have been for many years. No problem.

Mimaki CJV30-160 - question before purchase

I don't have that machine, but you need to look at your market. For the most part CMYK will be more than good enough quality. Unless you are servicing a very fussy audience, I wouldn't bother with the extended colour range inks. I have a 10 colour Epson and a 4 colour Mutoh. The Mutoh is used...

    Anyone using OS Yosemite yet?

Installed on my personal MacBook Pro on Friday. Took it off yesterday. I'll wait till they get some of the kinks out and try again.

    My head hurts...

It still amazes me how so many companies can have staff that is not up to speed with some of the more complicated (now) techniques. In the "olden days" stuff like this was not a problem. It seems now - that companies only want (or know how) to run process ink and flood coatings. Manual anythings...

    operating cost of xerox 7800

Just my 2 cents - but $0.67 per click seems crazy high. Even $0.24 is very very high. I would be out of business at those rate. For $0.67 you could outsource and still be less expensive

    No 700 Toner?

we are still with the 700 and Xerox, and for the most part, things have been good since that time. Lately there was a toner shortage again, but it seems to be resolved now. We will be looking at the 770 this fall. As usual - proceed with caution. LOL

    Proofing Pantone Colors

Good point - thx for mentioning. Especially in lower percentage tints

    Proofing Pantone Colors

9900 with spectroproofer and EFI 4.5 - Pantones are really close. I've been to a number of trade printers for meetings and they ALL use the Epson printers as well. Calibration and curves are critical. Take the time and spend the money to setup properly and you will be happy you did.

    Complaint about letterheads

We don't print letterhead on a digital press. EVER just for that reason

Is an iGen 4 really worth it?

I'm not in your volume range but the theory of redundancy is the same. I would never (ever) put all my eggs in one digital basket. I've been bitten way too many times by hard to get parts, unknown problem, etc. And it's always the old slow machine you never use that saves the day. I'd go with 2...
