    Illustrator - a good trick

I've had serious issues with changes not showing as in I edited an illustrator file and it somehow corrupted in that I would save changes to the file but when the file was placed in inDesign (postcard with variable data addressing) or output through the prepress workflow (for a flexo label) it...

    Opening PDF files in Illustrator

I had been musing that Mac computers were preferred for mostly that reason.

    Font Handling in Prepress

Unfortunately it is more my experience that it will take several emails and considerable time (sometimes days) to get a corrected file back from a client, where as it would only take a few moments to correct it myself. Often likely with small errors and outlined fonts I will be able to grab...

    Direct laser engraving

Do they make equipment specifically for that usage? I can't imagine that would be enjoyable to do: considering the horrid mess that laser engraving rubber stamps makes within the unit... I'm sure I could harden some emulsion and then throw in the engraver and get something that worked but that...

HOW CAN I SAVE PDF FILE ?l

I got sent art for a barcode label as a png even though on their first job they had sent 5 different formats and the only printable one was a bitmap. I requested art as bitmap like last time, and they resaved the bad png and sent it back. Wish there was some way to make clients understand they...

File opens with copy change; acrobat vs illustrator

My spam filter decided PrintPlanet was tasty. I have only been making edits with Illustrator. The original customer files were provided as pdf and once I had to start editing I made sure to leave AI editable on as it makes for less mess usually. I'm a little confused as to how I even managed...

File opens with copy change; acrobat vs illustrator

Yes! I've never seen that before! Opened the same file and the left one in the screen shot is the acrobat opening and the right one is the one that opened in AI CC 2014

File opens with copy change; acrobat vs illustrator

I've just tried opening it in photoshop and it looks correct there. If I open it in AI 17 (CC) then it also works, but it was last saved in AI 18 (CC 2014) and that's where it is opening with the previous version.

File opens with copy change; acrobat vs illustrator

I'm about to have a panic attack here because this isn't making any sense. The pressman came to check out a label he just put on the press and I realize that the copy isn't properly updated. I look at my file on the server and it is wrong... I look at where I sent the file to the customer and...

    Plate setup help please!

I need to leave 0.5" for the edge of the plate that folds when put into the press; I add this using the bleed area in AI or InD. Depending which quickmaster press we're using I may need to keep the copy .25" to .375" away from the edge of the paper; so I just typically go for .375". If you're...

First Goof? Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Teaser

Has it occurred to anyone else that the ships are performing maneuvers that it has been made clear are not possible for them in a planet's atmosphere?! I'm already upset that Disney now only considers what is in the 6 films cannon considering how badly Episodes I-III lacked in the story...

    Prepress Tips for Designers

So, I just started reading your article and had a headdesk moment at "(Note: this level of extreme image compression would never be used in production work.)" as just two weeks ago I was given approved art to print that looked at least that bad if not worse. These are people doing laser eye...
