Imposing Software for Printing on A3 or SRA3 Sheets

Hello, I need information and guidance on which imposing software or plugins are available to arrange pages for printing. Specifically, I want to:
  • Impose 4 × A4 pages on an A3 or SRA3 sheet
  • Impose 8 × A5 pages on an A3 sheet
Currently, I am printing on A4 sheets, which is not economical at scale. I am looking for solutions to make my workflow more efficient. I am a beginner in this area and would appreciate your help.

Quite imposing will let you impose on any logical paper size you create... I literally have page sizes in my list that range from 1"x1" (25.4mm x 25.4mm) to 36" x 48" (914.4mm x 1219.2mm), and about a hundred different sizes in between.

Thank you for your reply, I am looking a cheaper option - QI retails for 700$ I guess.

QI is probably your best bet. If you are a commercial user the investment is worth it, but it lets you work with a single file only at a time unless you do some Acrobat scripting. There is no free software that can do these operations on complex PDF files. You may find some opensource, freeware apps that work on simple PDFs.
If you need something industrial strength, or need to work on hundreds of files with full macro automation, batch folder processing, etc. take a look at the video below. This was just 1 of hundreds of functions for professional users.
Feel free to reach out for a demo version if you are a commercial user.
Disclaimer: I am the lead developer.
Best Regards

The only other application we use that will impose on just about any paper size is a program called Prisma Prepare. It comes as a page programming application for Canon production printers (about a $100k+ investment?). While it is intended to work with Canon machines, it does support JDF workflows and can export printable/imposed PDFs.

I like Imposition Studio personally.

It's worth it, as a one time fee. Buy it once, it works forever. After a year it'll have cost you less than $2 per job assuming you only do one job a day with it.

If you are printing digital and have Fiery, we like Fiery Impose here in our shop. It's real intuitive for our users and works well at the time of print, so designers don't have to deal with setting up imposition earlier in the process. It's a little spendier, but we got a lifetime license fairly cheap because we already had a maintenance agreement with our local Fiery dealer.

Cheaper options are Imposition Wizard or PDF Snake, but I have not personally used them and can't speak to their limitations.

PDF Snake takes seconds to try and is free to try, because there's nothing to download or install, so nothing is lost if it doesn't work for you.

Another alternative could be the PLDA plugin for Acrobat from Minolta.

Here is the link to their website: PLDA.net
The one-time price of 399 EUR (499 USD) is a little bit cheaper than Quite Imposing and the user interface is much more intuitive with everything in one window.
All the basic imposition functions are there (Step & Repeat, N-Up, Cut and Stack for both simplex and duplex jobs, booklet).
It supports page Mixer and hot-folders as well.

you are not using Fiery with any of your machines? You can get usb dongles for EFI Impose/Compose/Seequence very cheap, - you cannot use the newest Command Workstation anymore with it (they require a software licence nowadays), but we use 6.5 without any problems. Also, you can save the file to harddrive from EFI Impose as a PDF, so you can easily send it to print later.

Maybe this is a crazy idea, but if you are not using any Fiery enabled Printers (probably very unlikely) you could even buy yourself a used controller without any printer and still be able to log into it and make your impositions.

you can use apptekbh an imposition app that support any sheet size. I can also generation VDP, numbering, barcode variable...

another vote for this one. $200 USD for the Digital version which means for digital sheet sizes. This version will let you impose on sheets up to 19.685" x 19.685". So for digital use you can do a 13 x 19 sheet no problem. Software is relatively easy, support is great. You can create templates or hot folders. I have used it for years and have been very happy with it.

We use Impose and Compose with a perpetual license on the newest CWS. Works just fine. The problem with it is that you can't do Dutch-cuts.
