We are looking into buying a Challenge Titan 200. What are your thoughts about it? We have an old large manual cutter that we should be use for the few larger sheets we need to cut.
so i have a old model 20 cutter that wont cycle when the buttons are pressed. but when the clamp drifts down the pump will power it back up but again wont cycle. its ready for the trash if we cant fix it. no help from challenge as its too old but it has the same pump system as the titans. My company has had a Challenge Titan 200 for about a decade.
The machine has been pretty good, but here are some gotchas:
-Get some spare love-joy couplings for the hydraulic power unit (combination pump and manifold). Challenge sells the HPU as a single unit for $8000 (I think), but there is a plastic breakaway coupling connecting the hydraulic pump to the manifold inside of the unit that may occasionally snap off. Any hydraulic technician can fix it for like an hour of time and a $5 plastic coupling.
-Replace the spring that holds the clamp up immediately. We had the spring fail and drop the clamp and almost crush someone's hand.
-Keep some spare fuses around
-The back gate can get skewed from banging paper against it to jog, but it is easy to align with a couple of set screws
-There is no pressure gauge to indicate when the oil gets low, but if you have pressure issues you may need top off the oil
-You cannot adjust the clamp or blade pressure
-no air table

Thank you for the information, it is good to know. We have decided not to go with the 200 as it was too old but are now looking at a much newer Titan 230. Those issues will all likely have been fixed, but I imagine it probably has some new ones. Still waiting to hear back from the salesman with full details. My company has had a Challenge Titan 200 for about a decade.
