Half the time, I find it easier to fire up Illustrator - create the swatch - make a box - copy and paste into InDesign. It will bring the Pantone swatch with it. MSD

export the file as an .eps file run that through Distiller and read the failure log. MSD

I know about getting vector files out of PS. - Yesterday I was playing around with trying to get vector "Smart Objects" out of PS. I created the Smart Object and could open it through Photoshop in Illustrator - edit it and have it return to PS updated but when I saved as a Photoshop PDF (PDP)...

Run it through Distiller. You should get a log of the failure that may help narrow it down. MSD

I imagine you have tried the test with several different files output with different applications. What RIP is driving the platesetter? It sounds more like a problem with the RIP sending the incorrect data since you see the "page boxes." You have restarted your RIP server and had no effect? MSD

That would be a setting in the RIP. The PostScript would not have a dpi encoded. MSD

InDesign has a fine PostScript writer built into the application. Just "print" and select "PostScript" as the printer and "Device Independent" as the ppd. (or you could pick the Adobe pdf ppd) MSD

Do you see the psd file in: a White box or in a bounding box that does not match the background color or in a transparent box with white hairlines around the edges of the bounding box? MSD
