    Explaining Paper pricing? /M?

Sorry if this is a really rookie question, but I just got pricing from a local supplier, and the pricing reads: Stock Size Basis 1ctn Price/M 70lb 12 x18 32m 500 28.16 I'm confused as to what this means? Does it mean each carton is 32m, and...

Getting a DI press for 6 runs per week? (initially)

Thanks for the info HappyPrinter. I'd heard stories that I'd need to run it frequently otherwise I'll have all sorts of problems.

Getting a DI press for 6 runs per week? (initially)

Before anyone chimes in with the typical resposne, I'm not interested in subbing out these jobs. My question is - would initially running a DI press, like a Ryobi or a QM DI, be bad for the press only running that often providing proper maint. and cleaning was done? We'd probably run 3 jobs...

    Printing "raised ink"?

So, is it the ink that is causes the raised texture, or the powder you add on? What are the mechanics of how the raise forms? I'm imagining some pretty cool possibilities with this, as an alternative to Spot UV. I.e. doing 4/4, then doing another 4/0 pass for piece you want to raise off the...

    KM C6500 Regristration issues

Good call! I'm having one of these installed and hopefully won't have as many problems with reg. I'll make sure to level it off from the get go. Mind you - even their demo machine at the demo center had problems with this!

    Printing "raised ink"?

Thanks for the info! Can you name some brands that do this? Also - do you need completley different inks, and if so, are they alot more than regular ink?

    Printing "raised ink"?

I'm thinking the local places are not using the engraving method as it seems to be quite common. Alot of busiensses, even small time mom & pop style places seem to have cards printed via this method. I havent' actually purchased a DI yet, but just researching what they can and can not do right...

    Printing "raised ink"?

Im a little new to the print, but have recently seen a lot of biz cards raised ink. I'm curious if its done using a screen print method, or with offest and if its just a different type of ink? If just a different type of ink, could it be printed with a DI press?

Heid QM DI - Pros? Cons?

Is the IR dryer on that unit better than, or equiv to the Ryobi DI? Unfortunatley the Plus is a bit out of my budget.

Heid QM DI - Pros? Cons?

Your correct - no idea what that meant. That an awesome idea! The concept of a perfector makes alot more sense to me now as well. Happyprinter: What DI do you guys use anyhow?

Heid QM DI - Pros? Cons?

Now I'm more confused? All of the jobs we're going to do is double sided biz cards, brochures, and flyers.

    3404di vs QMDI Classic?

I've been comparing back and forth between the two, and not being an experienced press operater I have a few questions. First, other than the speed differences; if I'm able to buy the 3404di and QMDI Classic (1996-1997 range) for around the same price used - which would you recommend? From...

Heid QM DI - Pros? Cons?

Cool, I always budget well over other's estimates so when it comes time to paying the bills I have a bit of a surplus. As for the plate costs, I was basing that on doing a d/s sheet, so 4 colours, 2 plates per color per side x $9 = $72.

Digital printer looking to take on litho

Stop your whining dude.. I read a few of your posts, and my guess is you either work for or own a company that is not doing well, or is doing OK and having problems competing with the new guys on the block. That doesn't mean you have to b!tch on this forum everytime you decide to post. These...

Heid QM DI - Pros? Cons?

I guess this is where I'm a bit confused on the costing. For example - for 1000 sheet job on the Indigo, your click charge will be around $160 (based on prices I've been quoted) On the QMDI, you have the plate cost is aroudn $75, ink cost is $30-$40? (guessing) and waste sheets would be around...

    How are spot varnishes done?

Thanks for the info. For offline coating - what are some various brands of machines that do this? Are they terribly expensive (compared to presses)?

    How are spot varnishes done?

i'm not to offset press equipment, and don't really dabble in custom stuff like this - but as more of curiosity thing I'm curious as to how spot UV finishes are done. Can you load it in as a 5th colour on a 5 or 6 colour machine? Or do you need to do it offline using a certain type of machine...

    Realisitc ink cost projections?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but i'm getting into the digital side of print, but down the road see my self getting a DI press, or something of that nature, and wanted to get a feel for how much of savings I'll see over my typical click charge? I know the cost will vary greatly depend...
