    Square back booklets

That's the unit we have on the end of our duplo bookletmaker. You can roll it up to anything or hand feed it. It's actually made by plockmatic. We just built a little wood cart to to make it the right height for our duplo.

New to mailing services -- need help getting started

Google fiery freeform and you will lean the built in variable data. Basically you send the background art then you do the mail merge like you do for small jobs on just a blank page. Then the fiery will overlay it on the background. That's the easy part. Navigating postal permits and...

    Square back booklets

We squarefold almost everything in our shop. We don't usually upcharge for it. It is a great way to make a customer pick your shop even if you charge a little more because the difference is so drastic. It really makes a huge difference and we are the only local company that does it. If you are...

Can I print via Parallel port or USB port on the KM6500

I would go with Danny's suggestion. Use command workstation from another computer. If you can't get the fiery to start up because you can't see the log in screen you can do one of 2 things. 1. just wait until you know it's been on long enough to be at the log in screen. then type the password...

Pantone colour changing mid document on Versant 2100

One of two easy things will probably fix that. 1. Either use the APPE option if you aren't or turn it off if you are. It's the checkbox in the upper left of the job properties in command workstation. 2. Open your file in impose and save as a flat file instead of a dbp. Sometimes those imposed...

    Fiery "Use Embedded Profile" setting...

Not true. The embedded profiles are what the color has already been converted to. So you aren't losing gamut when you use the embedded profile, the customer already lost that when they used that profile. If you ignore it you are assigning different colors based on what your default source...

    Fiery "Use Embedded Profile" setting...

We leave it on. What it does is if the images in the file are tagged with a color profile it uses that to convert to the output profile. If you don't have it on it will assign the profile you picked in the fiery color settings. If that is different than the actual profile of the image it will...

Digital vs. Offset Printing for my new business

I agree with everyone else that you are probably a little over your head to start. Not that it's not doable as you learn but it's going to be harder than you thought. I have customers doing a higher volume than you in house and decided is was significantly less expensive to have us do the work...

Need a printer that can print 12x24 and on heavy cardstock paper of at least 200 gsm

I've never actually used one so I can't tell you how good it is. Just remember coming across it once when I was looking at things.

Need a printer that can print 12x24 and on heavy cardstock paper of at least 200 gsm

look at the oki printers. Something like a c900 series or there are some older models you can probably still get. They can do banner sheets out of the bypass. A new c900 series is a little bit over your budget but I'm sure you can find older models or refurbished ones for less.

    KM 1100 - Xerox 2100 -Ricoh 7100

Based on what we have used I can give some feedback. We had a Ricoh 901 and I demoed at 7110. It's a slow process to set up the registration but once you do it will hold more consistently and longer than the rest. When it does eventually move you have to go through the slow process again. We...

Quick Printers - Walk-ins, turnaround times, rush charges, etc..

I think you missed a little bit of what I was saying. A counter person / inside sales doesn't do production. They take orders and it goes into regular production where depending on the job takes a day or more. If you want to do while you wait type stuff then you are right, you need a production...

Quick Printers - Walk-ins, turnaround times, rush charges, etc..

It sounds like you have enough customers to have an inside sales person that waits on customers. We have one person who's job it is to wait on walk in customers and handle general phone, email, and website inquires. As fare as production we don't do any while people wait unless its off the...

Ricoh c7100 or KM c1085 Does anyone have experience with both?

My only experience with those two machines was that we looked into them when we got a new machine. We decided on a xerox 2100 over either of them which sounds like it would be a good fit for you also. We got 2 of them and run about 350k between the 2 of them. We see the tech 1-2 times per month...
