Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks and Zero K Fonts

I also run a Windows 2003 Server and use 10.9 Mavericks. We are one version behind on ExtremeZ•IP. The current is version 9 and we are on version 8. I am not experiencing these issues. BTW, AFP support has not been dropped. It is just that SMB2 is now the default protocol, but you can still...

    iMac 5k anyone?

I helped a client of mine set up a new iMac 5K last night. She LOADED it with a 3TB HD and 32GB of RAM. I spent about 3 hours in front of it. It is a cool machine. BUT... at the distances that most people sit away from the display, I do not see a compelling reason to lay out the extra cash for...

    RIP MacWorld

Sad. But it had become a shadow of its former self. I preferred MacUser to Macworld as MacUser provided more technical information on products. Macworld alleyways tended to focus on the UI and all the other pretty things. This continued aster they absorbed MacUser back in the 90's. My favorite...

    Illustrator info palette

I think what is happening is.... the outlined shape that you have highlighted is also a clipping mask. The dimensions in the menu bar reflect the area of the clipping mask. The dimensions in the Info palette is including the bounding are of the item being clipped by the clipping mask.

    Neon colours on grey

Gordo, Opaque White has worked well for me in several situations. I've used it on uncoated colored stocks, vinyls and clings. Even a metallic (reflective) silver stock. In my experience is has been both white and opaque.

Soft Touch coating doesn't adhere / set

What is the line screen and cell depth on your anilox roller? Soft Touch AQ requires a roller with deeper cells than Gloss, Satin or Matte AQ. Most AQs are good with 8.0-8.5 BCM. Soft Touch likes 10.0-10.5 BCM.

Which do you actually mean, Sheetfed Coated or SWOP? They are different. SWOP is for web printing (Specification for Web Offset Printing).

    Epson 9900 life...

Are you using an external RIP, or are you spooling directly to the printer? The drivers and spoolers on these devices are not the most robust. We are using a 3rd part RIP, ORIS Color Tuner, and have never had this issue.

    Epson 9900 life...

I wouldn't be too concerned about that. We have had a 9900 for about three years now and no slack in the carriage yet.

    Epson 9900 life...

In reality, the more you use an inkjet the longer it will last. Inkjet printers that are not used with regular frequency tend to have heads that fail due to the ink drying in the nozzles.

    ROOM Technology

It means "Rip Once, Output Many". This means that you RIP your file once to a raster format. Then you can output this to a proofer or platesetter an infinite amount of times and can be guaranteed that the integrity of the output will always be the same.

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

I always kept our production Macs (10 of them) up-to-date with the latest software. I did this all the way through QuarkXPress 8. When Quark 9 shipped, I only purchased 3 copies but only installed it on 2 machines. From then to today, I may have received two dozen or less files created in it...

    Preps 5.3

They are correct. 5.3 will only run on 10.6 Snow Leopard. This is because this version of Preps was written for the PowerPC chips, not the Intel. So Preps needs Rosetta to run. Apple discontinued Rosetta in 10.7 and later.

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

Really weird. I took your PDF and RIP'd it using RAMPAGE with the PDF Trap Engine. I got the same results you did. I then RIPd it using the older "RIP - EPS/PDF Input" and it RIP'd fine.
