    Ricoh 9200 Fine text issue

In my experience - color issues aside - the transfer voltage and paper speed can cause the issue you are seeing. Usually the trailing edge of an image but very visible on smaller images (text). Some models of machine have huge issues with this. Our 72XX was notorious. Not much can be done except...

    Job Security

Secretary at a local non-profit sent us their newsletter to print. The main headline of the lead article had an obvious misspelling. We contacted the customer who said. "You are mistaken. I spell checked it. It is fine. Please print it." Since this happened to be a non-profit the OWNER of our...

    Job Security

These are logical responses to a production issue. There is no correct answer and therein lies the irony which begets the seemingly obvious humor. We each think we know what we would do (lol) given the same circumstances but the response of "more work for me" flies in the face of our supposed...

    Product Development

No - don't give it up. Develop it, announce it with some 'stealth' marketing and prepare to sell. Convince them it's worth soooo much more to you than what they are offering - then sell it anyway. Now ADD the best features to your CURRENT software. LOL.

Preflight and fix large volume pdf's - Books Digital - print

Ah, the mythical Base 14 fonts era. I knew there was a number associated but conflated it with the number of system fonts provided by Apple which is/was a separate bygone issue. Some of us spent considerable parts of our (earlier) careers managing the associated issues. Many of those issues are...

    Heidelberg Cockpit licence issues?

If memory serves me the FIRST machine was the main file server. Then any additional machines one at a time. IF they don't connect, shut them down and start over in a different sequence. PS - they should still have the SAME NAME and IP ADDRESS that they had previously as changes will play havoc...

    Heidelberg Cockpit licence issues?

All the relevant Heidelberg software machines must be BOOTED to the desktop in the CORRECT SEQUENCE. You should have a cheat sheet with the sequence. Shut them all down. reboot in the right sequence and things probably will re-connect. YMMV

Preflight and fix large volume pdf's - Books Digital - print

Hi Dov - Thanks for all your comments here! Technical question about submitted PDF files with embedded Type1 fonts - possibly in old graphics. Note - these files are coming from non-savvy customers with older machines/software and almost ALWAYS involve one of the standard 23? fonts. When the...

Ricoh 9210 External Tray Feed Issue

Maybe roller feed/double sheet diameter. Small changes matter. ESPECIALLY if things were fine and now are not. YMMV.

    bump curve

The missing elements to the discussion leading to relevant answers: 1. The Make/Model Printing press used? 2. The Plate Manufacturer/Type used? 3. The Platesetter used? 4. The RIP used? Any/All of these facts MAY lead to different relevant answers to the original question. Unless someone...

Preflight and fix large volume pdf's - Books Digital - print

And I will 'assume' the cost consequences defeat the original poster's business model. Someday - maybe sooner than we think - it will all fix itself and we won't need those pesky print shops any more.

Issues finishing Ricoh 8310 B/W printers

Hi, Couple options present themselves. 1. On our 72XX we found the skew was happening BEFORE the exit. Make sure the upstream path, after imaging, isn't the issue. 2. We ran a copper whisker wire just above the exit which seemed to help sometimes. :) YMMV

latest InDesign beta opens/converts PDF files

I am jealous you got to work with/for Mr. Warnock. Early on in my career there was one name that always got my undivided attention. He WAS desktop publishing. Thanks for those insights. PS - Still have my Red, Green, and Blue books.

    Raster PDF Files

I can remember 'Copier Company A' selling 1-2 MILLION dollar machines and telling Print Shop owners (real craftsmen) they could move most of their work to the digital machines to lower cost and meet the monthly volume numbers. And the owners would BUY the machines thinking they had a long term...

    RICOH 9200 slow down

If this happened after a SERVICE call I would get back to them and complain LOUDLY. The tech COULD have reset some basic settings. YMMV.

Turnaround - Rush - Share your best most rediculous horror stories!

There are no excuses. Only different priorities. We had a 'rush' customer that always sent late, needed immediately, etc. One time the shipment got burned up in the shippers truck - of course we did not have any idea. A whole week went by - suddenly the customer called and asked us to reprint...
