    Press side measurement??

What about about going for something like the X-rite easytrax spectral version with press-check software? If your press is relatively recent and is capable of it, you can also go closed loop. I realise it's a lot more money, but have you weighed up the potential ROI on that type of system? I...

    Help with ISBN

Hi Muddy, basically an ISBN is an SKU (stock keeping unit) that is an ISO standard. If your book is being sold, it allows the retailer to scan the bar code and look it up using their own POS system. It is also a convention that basic information about the book (title, author, format, binding...

    Recommend a Digital Press

Oh. I was addressing your stated objectives: "...(color letter-sized ads, fee-guide brochures, etc.) and are now looking to begin producing these in-house. We need a digital color press for short-run production of around 5,000 items a month. Print quality is crucial. Most of our items are...

    Recommend a Digital Press

I think you need to consider issues like whether the machine is capable of reliably duplexing oversized gloss paper with a reasonable level of f-t-b registration accuracy. Personally, I'd ignore the voltage question as not really relevant.

    Igen 4-90 vs Nexpress SE2500

I've seen some really nice work coming off of iGen4s, better IMO than iGen3s even though they appear to be such similar technologies. The 6PP A4 option (oversized sheet) is useful too and IMO quality is good enough to replace 90% of press runs under 150 sheets or so. If it were me doing a SWOT...

    Recommend a Digital Press

+1 that service is at least as important as the "badge" I'm probably mistaken here, but isn't the KM C652 an office copier/printer? If you are comparing against a Xerox 550 and Ricoh light production kit, shouldn't you really be comparing the Bizhub Pro C5501 or even the newer C6000? Then you...

    waved paper

2 suggestions: I suspect that the 7000 engine is an evolution of the 6501. There are wearing parts on the 6501 that can cause more wave when you are getting near the PM. On the PM they are MEANT to rebuild this section, but your experience may vary, so I'd check this. If your paper is short...

    Ink Fading

Bob - we've run this type of printer for years and I'm afraid that the issue may just be direct sunlight, plain and simple. If you read up on HP's literature, it's buried in there somewhere. Even laminated, even indoors, if that type of dye based ink is in direct strong sunlight, the time it...

Looking for Someone to print Variable B2 size sheets

Wouldn't that work on a Xeikon? I think they have a B2 option. Pretty rare, but probably less rare than the inkjets you mention.

    Am I paranoid or?

Every single email you write is parsed by at least one government agency and at least one commercial organisation. Very little is ever deleted and you have no control over that. You better believe that ISPs FULLY cooperate with government agencies in virtually all countries and it is sensible...

mid production b&w, Oce vs Xerox?

What do you use Josh? To answer your question: mainly books, manuals and training course material. To date, I haven't been interested in inline finishing as we have all the toys in our finishing department. I'm wondering whether to revisit that decision though - what's your experience? What...

mid production b&w, Oce vs Xerox?

Well, we've well & truly outgrown our Xerox 4127 so will have to bite the bullet later this year. The Oce 6160 / 6200 / 6250 (all physically the same I think, just software speed limits) are very impressive, but I have some residual loyalty to our Xerox dealer who has dealt fairly with us (not...

EBooks outsell print books at Amazon

I admit to being a Kindle user! However, apart from the huge sociological issues that we all should be very worried about, I'm finding it puts me off new authors. The Kindle bestselling list is almost all very cheap titles from self published authors and out of copyright classics that have...

    Digital Print PDF Proofing

I think there are 2 approaches to this. You can emulate as close as you can to a "dot-for-dot" ripped proof. I suspect this is the approach Prinect takes. The problem with this is that it relies heavily on close integration with the destination RIP, or in fact is generated by that RIP. That...

    Bizub Pro 1200

Craig - felt bad that you didn't have much response ;) so here goes: don't have any experience of the 1200, but the input trays & finishing look a lot like the 6501 and I can tell you a little about those. Our highest count 6501 is 2 and a bit years old and on about 3M SRA3 (we only run the...

Xerox 700 Suitable media for Greeting Cards

Xerox 700 Suitable media for Greeting Cards

Jason - I guess that what you're asking is what kind of card you can use that will look like the material used for commercially printed cards: the stuff that has a coated semi gloss one side and a matt uncoated on the other. Technically that's just a one side coated board, but there are...

    Printing - Art of Science?

I'm going to print this out REALLY big and stick it on the wall so the press minders can see it!

Calculating spine width for perfect bound books

What can catch you out is if you have the incorrect caliper input in your calculation software. There's a big variation in thickness on the same weight book wove between mills and paper types and the same is true for coated grades. Getting the caliper out to check would be my first step.
