    Printing digital or offset?

Not all of them - Indigos don't have them, Xeikons too if I recall correctly, as well as inkjet printers. EFF has a list of printers known to use yellow dot patterns.

Wrong color - Manage, Profile or Cal?

Calibration is not a replacement for profiling an output device. Printers are not perfectly subtractive devices (as opposed to monitors which can be perfectly additive). Therefore, you cannot characterize a printer using CMYK curves only. You must measure a considerable amount of color...

    Indigo 3550 vs Xerox 1000 - Opinions?

I don't believe that. He may be flat out lying to you. Ask for real samples (especially uncoated paper) and abuse them for yourself.

    Fiery Stochastic Requires 600 DPI...

Sorry, I haven't actually seen a print of the stochastic screening. I've seen EFI's 200 dot screen before, and indeed it looks good, but I can't compare the two. If it looks better to you, use it. Your (or the customer's) eyes give the final verdict when it comes to quality.

    Fiery Stochastic Requires 600 DPI...

I've also got a speculation: Perhaps using 1200DPI (at 1 gray level per pixel?) creates a too grainy print, so the RIP lowers the DPI but adds more gray levels per pixel, thus creating a less grainy print. I know this works from personal experience with stochastic screening.

    amatuer spot colour question

Overprint is not the same as the multiply blend effect. Beware of applying transparency effects to spot colors - some RIPs will not handle this, and may reject your file or produce strange results. The software's problem is with flattening the transparency and determining the exact color...

    Indigo 5500 ink scratching

If this technology wasn't successful at meeting customer quality demands, it wouldn't "take the work from offset presses". You sound as if offset printing has no limitations and problems...

Which software can move CMYK curve of a pdf?

I don't believe such a software exists, because PDF files can contain objects in many different color spaces, such as RGB, CMYK, spot colors, device independent and so on. In addition to what Lukas said, if you want good color matching you'll have to use ICC profiles - create a profile of your...

Image viewed on Mac and PC different

Do you mean that the PDF file generated by Rampage contains non-standard objects? I don't believe so, otherwise Acrobat would report the file as invalid. The OP opens the file in Acrobat fine - it's just the black that's different. To the OP - pure black that's converted to CMYK always means...

"makes no sense"? Why? It's a PDF file - cross platform and independent. It's not a closed format. What special voodoo does the Rampage client monitor proof do?

How to tell if a CMYK build printed as requested

Working with Lab is not intuitive. When I tell you to add 5% cyan or subtract 10% yellow, you can have a basic concept of the impact on the graphic file or print. But if I tell you to add 8 to the a* and subtract 5 from the b*, that's harder to imagine. Also, working with Lab will prevent you...

Using a black and white inkjet to create riso effect.

Well, as long as the inks you're putting in the printhead have a low enough viscosity, the head will probably be able to push them through the nozzles. If you use a too viscous ink you'll risk plugging the nozzles, which may require you to replace the printhead if it can't be cleaned. Note...

    KM6501 color calibration

I don't know what the steps for calibrating the KM6501 are, or what the calibration patches look like, but the ES-1000 appears to be a re-branded x-rite i1Pro. I've worked with this device before, and I can suggest you the following: - When starting the reading (positioned on blank area of the...

    Denistometer V/S Spectrophotometer

Also, a densitometer is a lot more intuitive for the press operator than a spectro. Changing the density will change a single reading up or down - simple enough. On the other hand, delta-E values won't tell you what action you need to take to correct the colors, and comparing target and measured...

Auto generate CMYK values from Lab?

See Argyll CMS. It's a great set of color-management command line tools (cross platform). I use it every day and prefer its flexibility to x-rite's strange software. After installation, the workflow you can use with it is this: 1. Make sure your Lab values are formatted as a simple text file...

CMYK prints the same on every printer!!!

Of course it's a misconception! The majority of graphic artists I've worked with didn't understand or even know this simple fact: that every combination of printer-ink-paper will produce a different visual color out of the same set of CMYK numbers. It's a simple matter to prove this: print the...

What do you think of this?

I think petitions of this kind are really strange and useless. Do these people honestly think a company of Adobe's caliber didn't think their move through? Such a dramatic change in their business plan must have been discussed in endless meetings over many months. Huge amounts of money depend on...
