    Spot Color Name Length Limitation

A strange question but is there a spot color name length limitation for PDF, etc.? I've come up with 31 but I was curious if that was written in stone somewhere.

    DeskPack Dynamic Marks?

I cannot confirm as we were using DeskPack DynamicPanels instead of DynamicMarks when I had 12.X installed. Esko has since depreciated DynamicPanels and given licenses of DynamicMarks to replace it. I'm using DeskPack 14.1.1b227 and AE 14.1.1b598. I'm absolutely willing to test something for you...

    DeskPack Dynamic Marks?

Let me know if you're still hung up. It's a damn shame Esko only allow fit to width and not both fit to width and fit to height.

    DeskPack Dynamic Marks?

Perhaps you're hung up on what's really custom ad what's really standard. You have to create a custom-standard mark. A bit mind-melting of a concept I suppose. See attached screenshots and steps: Add a markset (I used Esko's "Mark Set 1" for this example), You can have a blank one but you have...

Esko AutomationEngine & Plato workflows for Heidelberg Dipco Marks

Still_Waiting's post about Dynamic Marks got me thinking - why aren't dynamic marks supported in Plato?

    DeskPack Dynamic Marks?

Yes, it's actually fairly straight forward. The elements are symbols in an Ai file called "DynamicMarks_AI18.ai" located on a Mac in /Users/Shared/EskoArtwork/DynamicMarks. Draw the element(s) you want create a symbol through the Illustrator Symbols palette and then use it your dynamic marks...

Esko AutomationEngine & Plato workflows for Heidelberg Dipco Marks

No one's responded what a bummer. Just in case somebody else is in a similar situation here are the very ugly ways of manually mapping: Create an incredibly elaborate workflow that creates static marks on demand (Why would any sane person do this?) Create an AutomationEngine workflow that reads...

Esko AutomationEngine & Plato workflows for Heidelberg Dipco Marks

I've reached out to support and I've been given ways to make it work but they're far from ideal. I know that there are plenty of you out there with Heidelberg Inpress, Axis, and/or ImageControl. How are you handling the assignment of inks to placeholder colors in marks?

    Life of your Epson proofer??

They last FOREVER. It's almost like the sales people at Epson didn't send the note to engineering about planned obsolescence.

    Production vs Creative

I'll take too many layers instead of no layers every time. I've had an influx of nearly completely rasterized art come in and then the customer wants to make adjustments for content and color. Apparently, we're "difficult to work with" because of this. It's usually the color palette utilized...

    7-Color Process

Over here in packaging land the buyers will love this, the designers will fight it tooth and nail and the QA people will be just be incredibly confused because none of it's based on actual standards beyond what the printer says.

    7-Color Process

It is progress. However, it's more of the "comrade we'll tell you what to do and how to like it" sort. Pantone somehow has managed to maintain the mindset Microsoft had 10 years ago. They throw around terms like "specification", "certified", "industry standard" like they own it. I'm guessing the...

Need some help from G7 folks...

I'm going to make some leaps... Either the G7 consultant who submitted to IDEAlliance on these was either tired of fighting the printer or doesn't really give a damn and did what it took to get a good sheet for IDEAlliance to approve. If the equipment and/or operators aren't up to the task...

    Spot color matching?

Nailed it. Our ink drawdowns folders spell out that what we hold ourselves to if the buyer doesn't supply their own specifications up front. We've discovered that many times the lab can produce drawdowns that aren't achievable in the press room and vice versa (typically volume control). It...
