That is why, at the shop that I worked at, we ignored what we thought was a mistake. If the content matched the signed off proof then as far as we were concerned that was how the customer intended it and we ran the job as is.

    lpi screen ruling

Whenever you increase the resolution of the screening by increasing the effective lpi, then you also increase the ability to resolve any press issues - no matter how the dots are organized - AM or FM. This press runs FM screening for breakfast cereal boxes. And this press runs FM screening...

    lpi screen ruling

200 lpi won't make much difference over 150 lpi. Rosettes will be a bit less visible. If you want to use screening for a competitive edge then you might consider switching to FM screening. More stable color on press, no moire, bigger gamut, much greater image fidelity, and Ink savings for you...

    Low Dot Gain. Again

Yeah. That's why I said that normally I would take the photos under lab conditions, meaning controlled so that both samples were photographed in the same lighting - like we did for the AM/FM comparisons.

    Low Dot Gain. Again

Thanks for posting those pics. Superficially they look the same (great dots BTW) Normally I would take the photos under lab conditions but using you photos. I tried making the backgrounds the same densitiy and then plotted their densities in 3D - effectively sowing the relative ink fim...

    Low Dot Gain. Again

Correct. It's like a doctor providing you with a drug prescription without first examining you. I was on the idealliance G7 committee and attended about 5 of their test press runs. I was the only one that had actual press experience. At one of the test runs at a commercial printshop the...

    Low Dot Gain. Again

Just a general thought. Remember that the measuring instrument you are using knows nothing about halftone dots. It measures a relationship between two tone patches (solid and screened) and the paper tone. it then uses a mathmatical formula** to determine a tone percentage. Because its a ratio...

    Low Dot Gain. Again

A sidebar.... The standards people (e.g. idealliance) perpetuate a misunderstanding about offset printing and that conditions how they base their standards and educate printers. Dot gain is not a target for the press. Dot gain is actually a process control metric. Dot gain is something you...

    Does onprintshop.com work?

Just a point of clarification - I'm not affiliated with Printplanet. I'm just a member like yourself. Many people have made that mistake. PRWhite is the admin.

Could you post some photo micrographs of your dots at 30 or 40% of the 4 press sheets?

Before you do any curves you need to make sure that the press is printing properly, consistently, and repeatbly. Hopefully you have one of these inexpensive microscopes so that you can view and photograph the dots on plate and in your presswork. Look at the halftone dots on the plate...

    Setting Standards (a RE:Print Repost)

In 2017, the original service that hosted RE: Print suddenly deleted all of my files which disappeared them from PrintPlanet. So I thouugh it might be a good idea to repost those missing 'toons. Hope you like!
