No - don't give it up.
Develop it, announce it with some 'stealth' marketing and prepare to sell.
Convince them it's worth soooo much more to you than what they are offering - then sell it anyway.
Now ADD the best features to your CURRENT software.
LOL.
 
You can forget the annual company picnic this year.

Since we're not going to do it, our competitor will. Then, we'll need to spend tons of money to buy the patent and pigeon-hole it so as to protect our outdated software.

Perhaps hot-dogs and hamburgers in Bill's back yard?
