    P A N T O N E Thoughts on 9/11

Im not viewing any particular edition of the pantone book, i know from having PRINTED it sir... many times on different stocks and having mixed it many times too not just ordering some tins... its not a problem for the men on machines, just another job on the list, and at the end of the day the...

    P A N T O N E Thoughts on 9/11

Pantone books should never be shown to a client..... 'nuff said :) Comparing PMS123 on uncoated and coated stocks is like most coated-uncoated comparos... the same ink on different substrates will look slightly different, ever done business cards on gloss stock and letter heads on bond for one...

    Heidelberg GTO52

The GTO will do everything you need in small offset, just not exactly quickly in todays terms... they are reliable in the extreme, with very little going wrong with them...ever... and they will register dot on dot all day long if set up correctly. The feeder is easy to set up, and is easy to...

    Tired of it.....

Has any one copped the sort of clown who is incredibly hard to please, then knock a job back on the basis of a colour being out by a poofteenth or something stupid..... but when it comes time to re print, there are a "few minor alterations" to the job...like their address or phone number being...

    Ouch...Double Freaking Ouch!

And then there is always the chance of static build up in dry air conditioned rooms....ye gods man you could be shocked!!!! I have had the odd finger nip and its in the back of your mind when running a press, but you know whats stupid and whats not... i used to have long hair whilst running...

Best Press in your opinion ?

Komori's are a good piece of iron, but it helps if you have a demonstrator, or a machinist with experience on them, to show you the ropes... We have a 40" and a 26" and both presses run pretty much faultlessly (for 9/10 yr old machines) for 16 to 24 hrs a day, 5 days a week... all they require...

Has my blog been blocked in China?

Not laughing at you Gordo!! Just a sideways shot at chinese "engineering" :) Have seen examples of American and European vehicles being reverse engineered with little or no changing to the original design, and a rather loose claim that "international patents do not apply to chinese companies in...

    Heidleberg Gtov Head Stop Problem

I have had a GTOZ do a similar thing, it would misfeed and not go off impression, and register would go further and further away as you sped it up (which was just great when you set a job up at low speed then cranked it up to run it off). That turned out to be the misfed sheet dam solenoid...

Has my blog been blocked in China?

Gordo: Im a touch surprised your blog hasn't been downloaded, translated, re-written with very minor changes, and released in china by a print company or a chinese version of you!!! :) and sold cheaper :)

    Head stop scratching

crank the press round till the head lays are in the fully "up" position, effectively where they are when a sheet layed and positioned to be taken by the swing arm grippers, and clean the head lay and swing arm grippers with a strong cleaner or IPA on a rag wrapped round a steel ruler... they...

is your press equipped with auto blanket wash device?

It depends on each job...for better quality work yes, i will do a blanket wash between M/Rs, but will leave back cyl's till end of shift or after 50k or so runs, unless running on uncoated stock and any picking is evident... when doing black plate changes on long run campaign work, if the...

Maximum gap between ink key and ink fountain roller

to be honest Erik i dont think i have ever run a 100% key, or measured the gap! from memory, and this is hazy, i would think somewhere up around .5mm but in general when you have no ink in ducts they will be zero set for washup then opened to be cleaned, so i cant be too sure...

    what spray for laser overprinting

De-spray it, ie run it back thru the press on impression with rollers disengaged to take the spray back off the job... unless the run is pretty big of course but 2000 odd wouldnt take long..

    blanket torque

When the blankets are a touch loose on the 40 inch komori i run they tend to advertise this fact with a slight clunky noise during impression cycles, and the general corner yo corner fit of the job will go away on whatever blanket is loose.. at this point we will have already determined which...

    metering roller

Trial some different fount solutions too, we had some issues with metering rollers inking up badly and a different fount more suited to the ink we regularily use cleaned them up. De-sensitizing will help but correct chemicals will help more in the long run.

    blanket torque

If you over tighten it destroys the integrity of the carcass. I think 45 lbs. is way too tight and you will not get the rebound out of your blanket when it takes a hit and if you print full coverage to the gripper, it will smash the lead edge quickly. Thats interesting to note, as i mentioned...

Tips for cleaning sheets from rollers??

Post script to this question, had the worst wrap ive ever seen today, with a sheet around every forme on the 4th unit... it turned out that a cylinder cam follower had failed and not pulled sheets off the blanket...at 13000 and hour on 90gsm gloss it got pretty ugly pretty damn quickly.... as...

    blanket torque

Im not sure what the blanket torque specs are, but we run a 26 and 40 inch Komori, and simply tighten hard, run a few sheets on impression, then re torque the tail edge...

    SM 52 Back Cylinder Cleaning

We use a white roll, will have to check branding etc tomorrow, but it does a passable job on our 40 inch Komori... have to remove paper lines when running full size sheets but otherwise it beats the hell out of handwashing... only issue recently is the console has had some probs and the tech...
