    Grey balance test

He has developed a colorbar that has limited single color patches, it is primarily 3c gray and K screens. The bars are constructed such that not only can you monitor gray balance, but you can see registration issues. Techkon can read the bar in their Expresso software to give feedback. He also...

    Grey balance test

I'm sorry, Erik, but I disagree with that statement completely. I've seen far too many faulty sheets that were the result of water problems; pH is wrong, tanks are contaminated, conductivity is wrong, plate grain isn't carrying the water correctly, incompatible ink and fountain solution, et...

    Grey balance test

Gordo, Your conclusion here is a little like saying that a canary in a coal mine was of no use because the birds died before the miners. A 3C patch is supposed to give you feedback before you have problems. It also gives you a visual tool by which you can monitor press performance. You can see...

    Best RIP for GS6000

There are more RIPs than you can shake a stick at. The three mentioned, then EFI, ColorGATE, Serendipity, CGS, GMG, Mirage, ImageNest ... Your choice depends on your budget and the features you want. Onyx runs only on Windows and is now APPE-based. What market are you in and what is important...

    gravure print specifications

You're absolutely right Stephen. The majority of those conditions have not been press-tested and profiled. The proofing can be an amalgamation of math, conjecture, and witchcraft.

    PDF Password Removal

Doesn't Apogee's PDF Export function create a rasterized PDF, though? Why am I surprised that they would provide a secured PDF? Obviously printing wasn't the primary function for which this PDF was built. It's of no use to you, but all the PDF/X specs forbid security in the PDF. Perhaps they...

PDF job option changes inside InDesign

So let me make sure I have this all straight. Include all RGB and CMYK Tagged Source Profiles gets you what you want. Include all Profiles triggers a conversion? How are you determining that a conversion is taking place? I have an idea, but I made be off track. Also, you said that this is a...

That depends on the press, the substrate, the sheet/web size et cetera. You'll have to ask the printer about his process.

And yet a combination like that cannot be proofed under normal conditions. There are very few folks who have the data to handle that scenario.

    gravure print specifications

I haven't heard of this restriction before. Obviously a gravure press can carry a dot smaller than 35%. On the other hand, if you're spec-ing a 35% screen of a spot color, you've selected the wrong spot color.

Then you can't do a spreadback as the result would be a halo around your letters. You have to start thinking about a design that uses a black stroke around the reverse type, or you just live with the misregister. This is why keylines were developed around images.

But items inside the PDF cannot be tagged. That's probably what you're thinking of, chevalier. PDF/X-4 can have ICC-based color.

    Idealliance Gracol 2013

GRACoL 2013 has brought up some interesting dialogue. The most significant change is in the white point - the b* value moved from -2 to -4. Not a big deal, unless you're in the business of buying or selling "G7 certified" paper(s).

Well, first question is what version of EFI are you running. The DTP-70 is no longer supported on version 5.

    Profile Maker Averaging

In ProfileMaker you want to go with colorful. I tend to set the neutrals to paper relative. Ink limiting should be handled on the RIP, so you can go with 400% ink limit. I keep the black width wide. The black start is a point of consideration. For offset I set the black start point to 0 with GCR...

Visually Close Gracol and SWOP Proofs w Epson 9880 and NO Rip?

Without a RIP you can't control the device. How are you linearizing? You can't use ColorSync for the color conversions as that pathway is broken. That leaves you with the driver, or only printing out of apps that take over the color management tasks. There are some very reasonably priced RIPs...

Proof vs. Press: Images Match, Colour Panels Don’t Match

Stephen, if my thinking is correct, you're wrestling with two issues. 1) The magenta is printing a bit light in the quarter-tone. 2) The magenta ink is a bit on the warm side, to begin with. How is the M+Y overprint? I'm guessing a little boost to the M curve would remedy this particular...
