    Disappearing dot gains?

Too true! No quote to reference, but I have often found that most people can't admit ignorance, they would rather bluster, deflect, and out-right lie to not have to admit they don't know something. I find this the MOST frustrating thing someone can do!

    Disappearing dot gains?

I would agree with you on the prepress part, but it's always guilty until proven innocent with prepress. I asked about blankets, they say packing is normal, and it's the same blankets we've been running for a while. we haven't changed fountain solution, but normally when I've seen that be the...

    Disappearing dot gains?

Prior to my pushing the curves on the profile, we actually had negative dot gains. down around upper 40's.

    Disappearing dot gains?

for the plates, I have an old Ihara plate reader, but it's what I used to set the plate linearization in the first place, and it's saying the plate is imaging linear. for on press, I have a handheld SpectroDens, and the in-line PDS (Techkon with Ryobi software), both are reading the same within...

    Disappearing dot gains?

Chris~ Not a bad idea on burning an old TIF, I'll give that a try. Love the quote BTW. Alois~ I have checked the plates and yes, I'm happy with the reading, luckily i'm running processed plates right now that I CAN check. I don't believe they have checked cylinder stripes. (pretty sure they...

    Disappearing dot gains?

one is a 750 the other is a 520 so can't really do that, but it is the same plate thickness & manufacturer, same burn profile, same plate linearization curve. Different characterization profiles because different presses though. but they've historically not been much different. For the most...

    Disappearing dot gains?

I have gone through all the profiling in the RIP and made sure that nothing changed unexpectedly, and it all looks to be in order. This is also only affecting one of my two 4-color presses. We are using Xitron Sierra RIP.

    Disappearing dot gains?

I'm hoping some of you brilliant people might be able to help me. About a month ago, our dot gains on our sheetfed press disappeared. I mean gone. I have been compensating with a manual curve adjustment of +15% (!!!!!) at the 50 and tapered down on ALL 4 colors. I don't need any lecture on...

    Transparency effects printing issues

Yes, as long as you don't close the file, it doesn't change anything. When you "Save As", it's essentially saving a copy while maintaining the file that is currently open. So you are good there.

File Sharing / Storage / Sync

there's still Quark, but Adobe has a strangle hold on the schools with their basically free student pricing, so no one is being taught anything else.

File Sharing / Storage / Sync

I don't use it, because it's not worth the added cost to us, so I don't really know how it works, but the Creative Cloud for Teams from Adobe might be something to look into. It includes 1TB of shared cloud storage per user too, but depending on your internet speeds, that might not help either...

File Sharing / Storage / Sync

I'm not sure on if the Synology would be any better or not. I gave up on trying to host Mac files on anything Windows years ago, so never tried with the new Synology. I use two mirrored Drobo 5N's for storing searchable backups in additional to archiving everything on DVD. This is their...

Lamination coming off near spine of the notebook (perfect bound)

@Diwakar I'm not sure what to tell you then. Other than to let the covers sit as long as possible (maybe overnight).

Lamination coming off near spine of the notebook (perfect bound)

We had this problem with one run of perfect bound books we did a few years ago. What we figured out was that laminate has a cure time. Our laminator recommended a minimum of 24-48 hours to let the laminate set completely before doing anything to it. We have followed that rule ever since and...

If you are just looking at working internally, my IT guys set me up with a Synology system late last year and it has been great! https://www.synology.com/en-us We have it tied in with our server running Hyper-V currently for the boosted RAM and processing power, but we use this to back up...

So How many prepress technicians got laid off because of Covid-19

I'm upper management for 3 copy centers and an offset print shop. We had a few voluntary layoffs back in April, the different departments discussed how they wanted to alternate for social distancing and we let them decide among themselves. (we're fortunate to have excellent employees that we...

Printing NCR and window enveloeps on digital equipment

Not sure why they'd tell you you can't run carbonless.... but if you have the high-cap drawers, I would pull out of those instead of the smaller trays. They are vacuum pick-up and don't rely on rollers to push the sheet into the machine. On the machine that's having the problems, that's really...

    Transparency effects printing issues

We just got a C3080 with the internal Fiery RIP. I don't run jobs as much anymore, but in the past, I've seen this pop up, especially with a flattened transparency that takes vector art and flattens some of it to raster. It has to do with the color management that you are apply in the Fiery...
