same color appearance on completely different substrates...

You're right, but there are still some rare cases where the client is willing to pay for the result he wants. - uncoated paper for drawing or completing a form is better than coated papers most of the times, that's not a real job anyway but an example i thought to better display my query- I...

same color appearance on completely different substrates...

Thanks Erik, but i think we must be very patient untill we see Landa's ''presses'' in day production... That's why i put that emoticon at the end of my sentence! Thanks again Gordo, nice idea with the double varnishing. The first varnish between paper and image should it dry before printing...

same color appearance on completely different substrates...

Carrying on with my - not exactly succesfull - effort to get to know what real people do with color management i came up with another question. A good color management solution is supposed to provide same color appearance for a product in multiple applications, outdoor banners, magazine ads...

RGB workflows and general color managing

Prinect reseparates files - if you choose so- before screening so you can proof and feel safe, especially if you are not doing this in regular basis. You are both right on why this is happening - not color managing files - but my main interest was to get if i could a picture of what others are...

RGB workflows and general color managing

Thanks for your info. I've heard about Alwan, i can also reseparate files inside Prinect. I rarely do because the policy is not to change customers cmyk numbers. My main question is this, that even though there are tools like the one you said, in most shops i know - like were i work - people...

RGB workflows and general color managing

I'd like to ask what traditional (not digital) offset printshops do with file preparation and color management. Firstly if you accept native files - that's the ''easy'' part, if a printer has the infrastructure to work reliably with native files, then color manipulating/managing these files...

    backlit media color management

Mike, the procedure you describe is what i did back in my service bureau days, respecting file profiles edit them in whatever color space suitable for the file needs but we did the converting to destination in photoshop, not our rip. In most printing houses i know, digital or offset, lack of...

    backlit media color management

( crime pays, more than prepress at least :-p ) Theoretically you're right, but like i said the sticker ( backlit paper ) was printed amazingly close to a business offset printed card i've made for my friend with similar artwork and same colors, so no problem with that. I would like to ask...

    backlit media color management

That's what i had in mind, but the printer wanted a cmyk file. To be honest,i gave him a card with almost the same artwork, and the sticker colors in daylight are almost identical to the offset printed card. Thanks again for your time, and for your site's link,it's a bookmark!

    backlit media color management

I don't have anything to do with sign making - i'm doing the prepress among other things for a sheetfeed printer -,this was done for a friend of mine, but like i said i wasn't satisfied and i'm asking all this just in case something similar comes up. You wrote that you would do this in a ''a...

    backlit media color management

Mike thanks a lot - although i didn't quite understood the color -white -color option,is that you apply two stickers one in front and one behind the plexiglass? -But then you might face ''registration'' problems.- This is the sign,it's an illustration i did for a friend of mine. I thought...

    backlit media color management

Thanks a lot. Before spectro's and color management software, i'd like to ask if there are any kind of basic principals in terms of what kind of lighting should we choose, how ''strong'' should it be,if sticker manufactures provide any technical details for their products -like for certain...

    backlit media color management

I'm searching for some basic - but proven - intro on this subject ,if there is any ( like i knew my way in conventional color management...) I googled it a little bit with little luck -although i found a couple of very interesting results but not as informative as i would like. Thanks in advance!

How Do I Persuade The Management That We Need Colour Management?

Hi Ben. Seven years ago,i was working at the prepress department of a publishing company. The production manager had taken the color management issue very seriously. We had calibrated eizo cg's,controlled lighting, our epson 4800 was checked in monthly basis, the only thing missing was that...

    Color Management without Linearization

John,i wasn't talking about changing from positive to negatives or the opposite, but changing from trillian to some chinese manufactor for example. But if positive and negative plates print different then even a linearized positive could print different from another's vendor linearized...

    Color Management without Linearization

@chevalier Reading the thread, and gordo's links afterwards,i had the question if in my case the two curves policy was a better than one. Really sorry for jumping in,i should open another thread and thank very much you for your answer. @gordo On the linearization thing,i was meaning the...

    Color Management without Linearization

First let's clarify this one: Linearization is measuring the plates if file values are equal to plate values, right? Then calibration is measuring the sheet if printed values are equal to some standard, like for eci v2 300,a 50% cyan patch should be measured printed to paper type 2 for example...
