hi all, techs are stumped after a few days. Press - Shino 75 5 colour 2005/6 model. Symptoms are - damper motors are spinning at about half speed, and the ink key settings arent getting through to the press. console is showing change, but absolutely no change at the press end. All hapened...

    Compressable blanket rejuvenators

ill have to second varn pbr. great stuff! other less good on press options are grease behind the smash, or if you have 50 sheets to go, hold a cigarette lighter near the surface and heat it up. dont burn it! just warm it and it will swell enough to do 30 or so impressions. found this out end of...

anyone using technotrans alpna.d dampening chiller/recirc?

this may sound stupid but i had a "lazy" doser on a technotrans on another press so I increased the dose amount and settled within an acceptable window. I recall wanting 3% but setting it on 5% or thereabouts for a more consistent reading over a few days. Alcohol was more accurate due to a...

Global warming - the other side of the argument

Agree. Works the same way as religion and governments does. 1- Make the people fearful of some catastrophe. (hell, terrorism, global warming, swine flu...) 2- Wave around the cure or the solution to the issue (carbon tax, phone tapping and obliterating Iraq, Rumsfelds tamiflu) 3- Instant sheep...

    Starting a new company

Im toying with the idea of branching out, trying to take on some jobs in a buyer/ 3rd party sense and having the printing done at a few trusted shops. Maybe making a small amount on the side. I would be doing all the marketing myself, and hunting the work. If it went ok, could purchase a...

    drying problem. still.

hi guys Ok to answer some questions put forward. No assisted drying whatsoever. Not even Grafo or Cobalt addition. I have done some tests with different inks and it appears some are better than others, so i may have to look at changing. The worst problem i had was with hostmann steinberg...

    drying problem. still.

Ok, i have this problem. When printing books and catalogues that require pressing, no matter how long i let the ink dry for, it almost always sets off, sticks together in the folded sections. Only way seems to be varnishing the 4 color secions. When i deliver the sheets to bindery, there is no...

    Tales of breakage!

haha great reads!! Ive had a few experieces, not too many of my own doing luckily Top one - labourer trying to put blanket on by himself, it had an underblanket that was only gripped at front edge. He had it backwards, so was trying to stuff the flapping underblanket into the nip. Guess what -...

How to convert one colour offset press to UV-coater?

hi mate I will answer from what i learned in the past. Im sure it is not the best or newest however. It was an experiment at a factory who wanted to do the same thing. In the end, it was outsourced due to problems, smell, and time wasted because the press wasnt designed for it. 1- yes it is...

    Teaching Intro to Publishing

    printlength issues. constantly.

Hi all Thanks for great replies. Ive made some changes, and am seeing some good results. I have different packings and reducing some inks with preliminary success. Nothings ever going to be perfect though, but im happy if i can just keep it going and its 90% there. thanks again

    SORSZ conventional Damping

do the hybrid systems perform well? i once heard they did strange things, but i havent run one myself. Im just unsure if adding integration thats not factory per se would be a problem, for example on large coverage areas with reversings etc all over it. The manufacturers say they run up to...

Installing end of press UV set up

I ran a 6 colour that had been "converted" to u/v, by having a drying unit on wheels with shrouded lamps rolled into the delivery. It worked, but there was quite a few problems. Couldnt run it fast was the main one, it didnt deliver well enough, and the delivery of the sheet had to be timed...

    non-stop feed and delivery

ive used them but only when running packaging type board, of say 450micron and above, had to stop every 10 minutes or less! And it keeps the labourers busy thats for sure. If you can find them.

    printlength issues. constantly.

ive redone the lot, new blankets, packings, and run a whole lot of screen and solid plates. With the overpacked last unit, its generally acceptable now, although this depends alot on the stock. My calculations were like this, please add something if im off here! blanket undercut 3.2 less...

    printlength issues. constantly.

yes i have had some alteration with the packing the plate option. Im leaning towards replacing the perma packing with thicker caliper stuff on the last unit so its plates on plates off still. it will be better but not perfect. i hate the variability, that cant be managed or contolled. cheers all

    Densitometer

Im looking for a desitometer, as our old (x-rite 418!!) denso died a firey death a while back. Im really only interested in Density and Dot readings. Anything else will be unnecessary for this particular plant. Thats also why im not allowed to spend $3K on a new base model gretag or x-rite. So...

Roller wash suggestions for QM46 Heidelberg?

Im not sure about price but i like varn envirowash. It does a good job, and doesnt smell like older style kero or HC washes. 0r v-120 works well too. Ive tried other enviro type products, some were ok, some werent. Varn seems to be consistantly good.
