Cleaning film processor to change from film to polyester chemistry

Just hot water imo. Be mindful to drain any filter canisters. I have experienced poly plate scratches due to old bushings in the racks.

    Ryobi 3302 - Inverter Board

I have swapped out Inverter boards while troubleshooting a gremlin. I have a newer, smaller style. I had a second machine with a larger board. I made detailed diagrams of the wire colors and everything went fine. I don't recommend it for the faint of heart, if you are of the mind, I think you...

    Storing Customer Files

Stop using the Desktop. It's rings of people who cannot navigate a simple folder system. (What's on my desktop? Nothing.) We are a small shop with perhaps thousands of customer files archived. I have mapped a drive on the network and named it Customer Files. You can create a "Customer Files"...

    Agfa Accuset 800+ Polyester Plates

I've used an Accuset 1000 for 10+ years for poly plates. Plate material from AB Dick/Presstek/Marc Anthony - Item 66534, Megapro-LD 5 mil poly, Spec 820, 13.3 in x 200 ft rolls. (These machines are not spec'd to cut thicker material.) I cut with a Dahle Cut Cat mat cutter. Roll up the plate run...

    Ryobi 3302 newbie questions

What has not been mentioned is the Crestlines - Nightly, after wash-up, spin the knurled knobs counter-clockwise to alleviate the pressure of the meter roller to the pan roller. (Spin them back down next day for running.)

Flood Coverage on Uncoated Sheet Protection

I'm not beyond keeping a client satisfied. I'll contact my ink supplier.

Flood Coverage on Uncoated Sheet Protection

Have done several runs of a flood back business card. The client must be noticing rub when keeping them in a wallet as they are now requesting Dull Aqueous flood over the back. Do they really think small offset printers have Dull Aqueous capability? After several long deep sighs I mentally...

    Muddy B&W Images

I'd like to know more about this. I printed crappy grayscale images for years. "Out of the box" conversion of color to gray has never impressed me. I simply open in PS, convert to gray, and make some (eyeball) adjustments. I love the history tool. Instant gratification.

    Command Workstation log

I have had to use the log for situations similar to the OP I would think these are the counts you are being billed for; just a guess. If it shows more counts than you think, it would be worth looking into.

    Unibind Steelbooks

Anyone have much to say pro or con for Unibind Steelbooks? We dabbled in it many years ago but the customer service was not able to satisfy real-world needs. I occasionally take in an order for a few books. A client wants 300 books. The sample they brought with them appears to be a Unibind...

    Shop towel substitute

After 15 years running a press I became allergic/sensitive to everything my hands were exposed to. My skin would be bleeding. The dermatologist rattled several conditions/phrases. In reality, I don't have the time/inclination to put on a glove for all the actions I need to perform with my hands...

do I have to use bottom roller and doctor blade on UV Coater?

Just to add my $.02 The amount of coating you are using is determined by the upper roller pressure. Engage tighter, less coating. (Engage too tight and it will pop out in my experience) The blade cleans the lower roller.

ab dick aquamatic system with copper roller

I've been corrected on this, but for the copper roller Ajax (or generic scouring powder) & water does wonders. I did not know about blue etch at the time, but blue etch is an appropriate finish for any (rubber) roller that is intended to run clean/without ink. No Blue Etch for the copper roller

how should jobs progress through Prepress departments?

imho few people can design attractive materials. I would further suggest that creative minded persons are less adapt at the nuts & bolts technical details involved in imposition, color management and equipment upkeep and operation. (That CTP needs cleaning and maintenance.) If there is enough...

    ryobi 3302 dripping ink

In my experience the older the rollers, the more common the problem. When I get new rollers, it could be over a year before the crossbars build up. A second machine in my shop had to be cleaned constantly.

    Ryobi 3302 toning.

Have you checked and set the forms to oscillator stripes? That's going to be more important than the form to plate stripe. I've been known to lift one form lever & run with either 1 or 2 forms to track down stuff like this.

    Ryobi 3302 blanket thickness?

Total undercut is .98 The manual specs the blanket at 2.5. (That's mm 2.5 x .3937 = .984) 5 ply blankets have "changed" over the years. I have 5 ply blankets from years back, don't ask me why I keep them. They are 101, 103 & 105. That really messes with the running length when they change.:(
