agfa star 600 + accuset 1500 plus setup

I expect Vlad will chime in on this, but, do you have a Mac available for the network? I push output to an Accuset 1000 plus without any RIP and have not been able to circumvent Appletalk yet. What exactly is the ripper 600, a separate device or internal to the 1500? btw, have you loaded the...

Simple question for my simple mind.....

Marks answer is simple, safe, least prone to problems. It ensures that your not changing the source file, only improving your end product visually. Get in the habit of using a new layer for your "edits". Illustrator can open pdf's, but you will triple your time, with some occsaional unnoticed...

    Roller Wash Up Blade

Bunk. OK, depending on which roller(s) you're applying the wash-up to, there may be value to that. If you apply wash to the roller in contact to the blade, or near "upstream" to it...that has merit. I apply wash to the top roller in the machine. Do a test...time how long it takes to wash both ways.

    Roller Wash Up Blade

I keep that blade engaged, can't imagine a need to lift it until the rollers run clean and dry. (You will get mess if you stop the machine with it engaged however.) And a new blade is probably worth the cost of all that solvent that gets used with an old one.

    PDF for Printer

@ CathieH Actually, it is becoming common the crops not be included. The bleed and trim defined in a proper pdf structure suffice.

Convert pages in PDF to greyscale

You would have to break the document into sections in Acrobat. For the b/w sections, use Preflight (Advanced > Preflight > PDF fixups) to convert to grayscale. You could create a batch process to hit all those b/w sections in one batch, then reassemble the thing.

Long black jobs on a color digital press

FWIW, our Sickinger punch runs about as fast, at it's lowest speed, than an operator can load it.

Any Genesis DPX users out there? Need your input

We had been pushing Poly 5 mil material through a small imagesetter, no RIP, and came upon the same machine used, full gaurantee, well installed. I really trust the company that brought it in and set it up. I sent it back after 30 days. I run plenty of 150 dpi process on a 3302... YMMV

Will an inkjet proof show trapping ??

For small press work, InDesign has never failed me with Application Built In Trapping. Note that ID will not trap anything in an eps, save them as AI, or put the whole piece to PDF first, place that, output DTP. For tests, if rather than printing direct to the platemaker/imagesetter, Save to PS...

Freehand file issue. Read/write access denied..

I am certain I have opened Frehand MX files with Illustrator CS3. As for the read/write denied...I have found, with Vista, that the Program Files folder (and sub folders) are restricted; users do not have any (sufficient) priviledges. Navigate to the Program folder, pull up the Properties...

    Accuset 1000 Plus

Yep yep, I've followed all those steps. As the machine starts there is a quick screen which shows 0-CEN 1-SER 3-TP 4-Apl 5-TCP/IP 5 is than shown underlined informing me that TCP/IP is in use. (Why did they omit 2??) I guess I'm wondering how or why not my PC's and Mac do not see the...

Does Indesign CS4 recognize missing fonts in links?

I'm not sure about EBC, but, fonts are embedded in eps files by default. This necessary font info will pass thru Distiller, PDF, or the print flow. BUT, the font is not local to your machine, and Illustrator alerts this upon opening. Illustrator will not, "un-embedd" the font for your usage...

Indesign packaged files with file(s) updated outside of the packaged file

I always accept InDesign's default packaged folder name of Filename Folder. This alerts me that the file was meant for handoff. Immedialtely after creation, it would have been compressed and I either delete the compressed or uncompressed folder as follows. If the document consisted of new...

    Accuset 1000 Plus

The Accuset 1000 Pus has an on board (?) HDD which functions as the RIP. (Right?) Yes, when I was selecting ppd's back in another front end, we would select Star 400 or Star 800 RIP.

    Accuset 1000 Plus

This machine manual leads me to believe, but I have been unsuccessful, at installing via TCP/IP without Appletalk. Hardware RIP, nothing external. Is this possible? The inputs for the machine (I have two identicle) are Imagesetter, Ethernet, Centronics, RS232C & Local Talk. I have enabled TCP/IP...

    Booklet problem with KM 6501

The long processing time was likely caused by large amounts of transparency and graphics used which needed to be processed by the RIP. If the job failed to print, you may have conflicting settings; "Fold" combined with "Main" Output Tray (although the print features window would usually alert to...

    Random Bold Text

Are the fonts embedded in that source pdf? You could (I would) re-fry the pdf via placing the orginals into ID and exporting another pdf.

Ricoh C720 vs. Bizhub Pro C5501

I can't speak for the Ricoh bur our Bizhub 5500 does beautiful work on anything I throw at it. The front to back registration is there, whether text weight or heavy cover, but, I have better service and support from others in my area who purchased through a different vendor. Tomorrow I'll be...
