We used to run KM before getting our current Versant. The KM ran silk stocks without any issue and much preferred the machine overall to the Xerox Versant. However, the KM uses corona wires and we ended up having to replace them quite frequently but they’re cheap and easy to replace.

Yes but what I meant was surely the coating is there for a reason so if the coating comes off, will the pressure roller continue to function correctly?

Just in response to your comment about wanting headroom... our Versant 80 maxes out a duplexing 300gsm but we duplex 350gsm all the time. We also have far less issues with the printer when printing 350gsm than say 170gsm so not always a factor though I do see where you're coming from.
