Sorry... I missed the "free" part!! Indeed nothing from Esko will be free. I do think color port and i1Publish from xRite will do this and they both have a free mode. Cant say for sure, but may be worth checking them out.

I have found that even if the customer makes the conversion themselves they still have no way to view that conversion in a way that your press will output it. Sure you could supply them with an ICC and hope they have a quality proofer that is maintained properly but then your back to the issues...

Jose- You are correct, I misspoke. Ink Manager does resize but Trim and Media box still do not.

Japa- Thanks for the clarification, but I was simply pointing out that the original news release from Esko said September and now it says October. And FYI we have been down this road before with posted release dates and then a revised date and then another revised date etc. So lets keep fingers...

schneidere- We have tested it and everything appears to be working fine. If you had to wait for Esko to test you would not be upgrading for a while.

And if you have not noticed yet, Esko now pushed their release back to October. So we should have our plugins by maybe the end of the year. But with all the existing bugs included free of charge ;)

Thanks for the info. I could see where it could be successful on digital. The technology itself seems pretty cool. Some of the negatives I have heard are that the process degrades your image quality by adding noise and increases the size of the images about 150%, so you end up with bloated files...

We also keep all files forever. We average ~6000 files a year and our used storage is around 6TB. Storage is so incredibly cheep these days you may as well keep files forever. We store on Drobos using dual redundancy (mixed feelings on the Drobos but overall pretty solid) with multiple copies...
