Font management - Mac vs. Windows

Yes to all of the above. Where is this Xanadu of trained customers you speak of?

Font management - Mac vs. Windows

Thanks, PricelineNegotiator. When you say you exported the fonts, how did you accomplish that? Is there a utility or app you used? Why do you not like separating fonts by customer?

Font management - Mac vs. Windows

Our IT department is pushing our large format division to migrate from Macs to Windows 10 workstations. In my experience, the biggest challenge will be fonts. The Adobe applications seem to run the same on both platforms but we are always battling customer-supplied fonts. We are currently...

    Print Variable Data PDFs

We had an account where we used HP Smartstream to generate a variable data pdf that was 8,000 pages long and sent to an Indigo 5600. ABSOLUTELY CHOKED THE RIP. I can't imagine a 30,000 page pdf! We had to break it into smaller chunks to get it to go.

    Dutone-Screen Angles-Color Flashing

Gordo the two identical screens caught my attention as well - no printer would ever do this. The truly scary thing is what happens to the decades of knowledge in our noggins when we achieve room temperature? Oh well, off to the scooter store. :)

Editing a Normalized PDF in Illustrator

No can do esko_pdl. Not without an Esko license for the PDF Import function. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Editing a Normalized PDF in Illustrator

We use the Data Exchange plugin all the time to export Normalized pdfs for Esko. Forgive me esko_pdl, but I was unaware it also converts Normalized pdfs to editable AI files? I will have to give that a whirl in the morning.

Editing a Normalized PDF in Illustrator

Recently we had a situation where the customer lost their original AI files. For whatever reason, we no longer had them either. All that was available were ESKO Normalized pdf files. Out of desperation, they used the Normalized files to make edits in Illustrator. Ultimately we ran the job...

    Fixing Files

Yup. It's the cost of doing business. If they submitted perfect files what would they need us for? We adjust as needed to get the job to print correctly. We only reach out to the client when there are serious issues and let them know there will be a cost associated to fix. Contacting the client...

    Sales Double—Using 50% Fewer Staff—by Automating Imposition

Sooooo... did they get rid of Esko? They were able to get rid of 3 people that only did imposition? That's a lot of imposing. We are currently using Esko Plato and Automation Engine but we don't do any book work. Plato is weak sauce in my opinion. At a previous shop we used Preps with the...

Printing same image (2UP) on sheet problem with print

That's a transparency issue. I can see the box of red ghost behind the word view as well. Without knowing how the file was created or saved it's tough to diagnose. Flattening transparency should fix it. Could be a rip setting-did you contact Ricoh? You could rotate the file-if the problem is in...

Agreed. That's a definite belt with suspenders situation.

CSR and Prepress roles merging (a little)?

We are being asked to do more CSR duties. Planning layouts and contacting the customer. All part of the do more with less mindset. Easier for us to contact the client and discuss issues than to tell a CSR and have them relay the info.

    Esko Powertrapper

Thanks schenkadere. That's how I approach it as well. Management is convinced there is an automated solution that would have caught this and why weren't we using it. Unfortunately, a visual inspection is often the only way to catch these issues.

New look of Print Planet forums with little logos or whatever to the side...

I think it looks pretty nice-not so Netscape Navigator. Seems like less flashing ads too...I swear there were some on here that nearly gave me a seizure.

    Esko Powertrapper

Sorry I can't post pdf-design hasn't been released yet. I was hoping there was a way in viewer or automation engine to flag or highlight-kind of like a thin parts situation where it flashes areas of an issue.

    Esko Powertrapper

We recently had a project that went bad on press due to a missed area of trap. The job was made up of all spot colors. Esko's Powertrapper was used and usually works well. The design was very complex, incurring over 500 trapping instances. One lone area did not trap and we made scrap. What are...
