    Industry standard Delta E?

My comments are in red color. For offset printing, is there an industry standard Delta E to determine if the amount of color shift is acceptable? Industry "norm" is a dE <=2.0, but depends on market segment. Tolerance limits should be mutually agreed upon by both buyer and printer, not just...

Sanity Check: Web Offset Ink Consumption Math (Esko CIP3 -> Custom Estimator)

Ascott: If I can get a baseline, I can unit-test the software's output against our actual pressroom ink consumption logs from last month. Your estimating software should "model" real production data. Use your historical ink mileage consumption data as the baseline reference. You know the 1) #...

Sanity Check: Web Offset Ink Consumption Math (Esko CIP3 -> Custom Estimator)

I assume you are: heatset web, using solvent based inks, not coldset absorption inks, also have a 3rd ink mileage factor for uncoated paper, besides coated and newsprint?

Spray powder not working on bottom 1/3 of load

Regarding the "sticking" noise, No harm, No foul! The sticking can be separated with an aerator/skid turner. At least the sticking is not creating any defective waste.

How do you adjust a quality work?

You don't need 20 clean sheets for sampling, probably just 3. Between pulls, do you let the press idle on slow speed or do you stop it completely?

How do you adjust a quality work?

The amount of effort (time & materials) to get a press-to-proof color match depends on the sophistication of press technology. Most printers don't buy a press because it prints faster (22K sph), it's because they can reduce the make-ready (MR) time shorter. CMS = Color Management System (~G7).

Maks, In post #22 you say "I hope others can advise what seems to be the abnormal things we are encountering with our printing?". Poster "Assures" makes a comment about your high SIDs. Then you say you even sometime printer much higher! Aren't you curious about what would be your TVI if you were...

Newspaper page width now 11" wide, 41% narrower!

Below is a YouTube video (3:22m) I created in 2020 during Covid for my students at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY. It shows how the width of a newspaper page is getting narrower over time, to reduce costs. The newspaper where I worked,'23-'26, has been sold and is now printed a 3 hour...

    Blanket Life?

For educational/training purposes, can anyone (vendor/user) share how many impressions they are getting from their offset blanket before replacing? Instead of impressions, do you track time by dates? Do you track the reason for changing it (smash/ding/dent, cut line, embossed, print quality)? I...
