    Heidelberg Saphira PY Plate

I'm not sure if this is still true but years ago the rumor was the the Saphira plates were manufactured by Agfa.

POLY PLATE OPTION FOR HEIDELBERG PRINT MASTER

I bought and used one of these for about 10 years. Great machine as long as you keep up on your maintenance, which isn't that bad.

Acrobat Reader allows you to turn overprint simulation on, but it must be done in the application preferences.

Xitron Ships 5,000th Navigator Digital Front End

I am honestly surprised it is only at 5,000 units. Xitron has been around for eons as well at the Navigator system. In my travels I have seen at least a dozen different installs.

Any Idea how this is printed

I have actually printed on golf balls in the past. The company LogoJet makes devices that are designed for printing on 3D substrates. I have used these in the past, albeit was several generations older than this. At the time the print engine used was an EPSON.

    Fiery missing font issue

This is true, but the OP states that the PDF was amalgamated. Probably PDFs from several sources. That would explain why they are embedded on some pages and not on others.

    Best tutorials for print workers?

PocketPal is a good resource but it is really more of a basic introduction to concepts. IE: it may describe what an imposition is but it won't instruct you on how to achieve it.

    Cold Foil Problems

IMHO, 300 is too course of an anilox for the details required. It looks like "dot-dipping".

    Illustrator as a PDF editor

I don not think any reasonable prepress professional would argue this point. BUT... a lot of times we are given files that represent an '86 Yugo and the expectation from the client is that we produce a Pebble Beach Concourse level Mercedes 300 SL. We all know the excuses we receive when asking...

    Fuji partnering with Sharp?

I really don't think it will affect them much. There is (and has been) so much re-branding in the printing industry. Scanners, imagesetters, platesetters, processors. Back in 1989 we purchased 2 Nikon LS-3500 film scanners and they were re-packaged under at least 5 different brands. I don't...

    Another newspaper folds

Sad, but not surprising. The Great Falls Tribune and the Missoulian (both in Montana) are printed in Helena Montana. What is really interesting is that while the Independence Record (Helena) and the Missoulian are both publications of Lee Enterprises, The Great Falls Tribune is owned by Gannett.

    PitStop vs pdfToolbox

I am just getting back on these forums after a hiatus of a few years, so I'm sure I have missed a discussion about this. In the past +/- 20 years I have only been exposed to Enfocus PitStop. I am now working in an environment that utilizes both PitStop and Callas pdfToolbox. Can you tell me what...

Need Some Direction on Digital Label Presses/Finishers

That is a gross oversimplification. Digital presses are so much more than they used to be. And digital label presses are amazing pieces of machinery.

Anyone use an impact type printer

I have used a LogoJet UV2400 that does exactly what you want to do. The are very impressive, but not cheap! I have done stone tile/coasters, golf balls & tees.

Butt-load of spot colors in a job

Years ago, we were running a Mercedes-Benz car book on our new 8-color 40" Sheetfed. One form had the paint options pages. It was 24 plates for each side! A total of 6 passes through the press. What a nail-biter!

Butt-load of spot colors in a job

The maximum of 27 spot colors is a known limitation for InDesign. Unfortunately, I do not know of a workaround.
