    Epson 9900 life...

I wouldn't be too concerned about that. We have had a 9900 for about three years now and no slack in the carriage yet.

    Epson 9900 life...

In reality, the more you use an inkjet the longer it will last. Inkjet printers that are not used with regular frequency tend to have heads that fail due to the ink drying in the nozzles.

    ROOM Technology

It means "Rip Once, Output Many". This means that you RIP your file once to a raster format. Then you can output this to a proofer or platesetter an infinite amount of times and can be guaranteed that the integrity of the output will always be the same.

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

I always kept our production Macs (10 of them) up-to-date with the latest software. I did this all the way through QuarkXPress 8. When Quark 9 shipped, I only purchased 3 copies but only installed it on 2 machines. From then to today, I may have received two dozen or less files created in it...

    Preps 5.3

They are correct. 5.3 will only run on 10.6 Snow Leopard. This is because this version of Preps was written for the PowerPC chips, not the Intel. So Preps needs Rosetta to run. Apple discontinued Rosetta in 10.7 and later.

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

Really weird. I took your PDF and RIP'd it using RAMPAGE with the PDF Trap Engine. I got the same results you did. I then RIPd it using the older "RIP - EPS/PDF Input" and it RIP'd fine.

    HP Indigo screen angles

Thanks Gordo! You might be right... Unfortunately with their screening angles, tints with Cyan and/or Black look very bad at any edges that are perfectly vertical or horizontal.

    HP Indigo screen angles

Would anyone be able to educate me on the screen angles that HP uses on their Indigo presses? Cyan = 4° Magenta = 64° Yellow = 18° Black = 34° Is there a reason for this? Has anyone printed with traditional angles?

In Illustrator, under the View menu, see if the "Hide Edges" is showing. It is says "Show Edges", that might be your problem.

    Business Jargon

I believe the correct quote is "I couldn't care less." "I could care less" shows that you still have concerns.
