I got so caught up in the Dov magic I am just assuming the basic tricks have been tried? I understand how complex vector graphics like intricate patterns with thousands of points can gag things up but I've also gone through placed images and rounded off the scaling and rotation of those down...

I used Output Preview in the Print Production tool of Acrobat DC. The greyscale images are indeed black only. That being said, if these pages are part of a file that contains CMYK data I'm assuming the clicks are based on the file as a whole and not actively searching the file for black-only...

I get that your method works but the thought of saving a file with a dozen separations, many with custom color names, into separate files, colorizing them in Photoshop, saving them and then re-combining back into a single multi-page PDF seems like a PIA. Additionally, the rasterization process...

Yeah I can do it in Esko too-I'm trying to dumb it down for clients who just have Acrobat Reader. I thought I could use the Adobe PDF printer option or InDesign but I'm whiffing on all attempts.

For viewing/proof approval and for printing to clear overlays (think colorkey). Some clients only have Acrobat Reader or lack the skill/will to view the layers. A separate color on each page would be ideal. Then they could scroll through the pages to view the seps.

Does anyone have a workaround to create a separated PDF that prints the separations in the color that is called out? I can generate a separated PDF, but the individual colors are in black and white. I would like for the separations to be in the color they will ultimately print with. A Pantone...

Thanks for all the responses everyone! So much good info for those still struggling with older workflows. It reminds me that not everyone is working with the latest and greatest software. "Just make my Office PDF work" made me smile.

Sorry if I confused you DYP but I think you are probably correct that the tech was focused on getting separations (screens) as separate files. We just don't want to have to go back to that workflow if it can be avoided.

Yes but why? When does this workflow make sense? Isn't it a step backward in technology? Doesn't the Postscript file still need to be distilled? That brings to mind endless transparency and font issues. As I said, just looking to be enlightened.
