    quark 9

I would try exporting a PDF directly from Quark and bypass FontWizard. We haven't used FontWizard in either versions 8 or 9.

    CD & DVD Replication

I wasn't quite sure which forum to post this in... Does anyone have any experience with small CD/DVD Replicators that also inkjet on the face of the media? A few of our customers have the need for disc replication that will accompany their printed collateral. For some of the smaller...

transparency issues with placed PSD files -workarounds?

I too have seen artifacts and unwanted elements show up at our HP Indigo RIPs when transparency is used in combination with spot colors. As it's RIP is not APPE-based it does poorly at flattening and gets even worse when it has to do that AND convert spot colors.

replace dead AIT-1 tape drive - help!

Generally speaking, AIT devices are backwards compatible. AIT-2 drives will be able to access AIT-1 media. AIT-3 drives will access both AIT-2 and AIT-1 tapes.

why is Oris Color Tuner adding C + M dots to a pure 100% Y?

This is due to the fact that there are more impurities in offset litho ink than in Inkjet ink which uses "purer" pigments. the ORIS software is trying to reproduce "real-world" conditions.

    Prepress Tips for Designers

As we speak, I am working on a file where the "designer" used an OTF version of ITC Franklin Gothic, a PostScript version of ITC Franklin Gothic and a PostScript version of Franklin Gothic from another foundry. WTF?!? And the InDesign preflight warned of 6 missing fonts. They are all in a total...

When I request a vector file of the RGB.png you supplied... Placing it in Illustrator and saving it as an .ai or .eps doesn't count!

    Rampage Upgrade costs

There is an update to version 12.2. I received it at the end of November 2012. It says that it is compatible with 10.8, but I have not upgraded my production Macs to that yet.

Moving from PSI by EFI to Enterprise

After 8 years of using PSI as our MIS system, we are moving to Enterprise. From what I've seen so far with Enterprise, it looks decent enough. We will be having several WebEx training sessions over the next several weeks. Will anyone with experience with both systems please comment about this...

    InDesign or Illustrator

IIRC, Illustrator CS2 does not allow for multiple artboards so placing them in a 40-pg InDesign document would really help the sanity of prepress. Now that Illustrator does support multiple artboards, I don't mind designers supplying those either.

POLL: Automated or Manual Two-Sided Proofing?

Usually no more than 1/32". But like all devices of this nature it has its good days and bad days. The newer model is better because it uses a camera system for back-up registration.

POLL: Automated or Manual Two-Sided Proofing?

We had a HP DesignJet 1000 with a Techsage SpinJet 1000 attachment up until 5 years ago. Now we have a Preproofer from Digital Imaging. It is 2 EPSON 9XXX stacked on top of each other, the bottom unit rotated 180 degrees from the top unit. The top unit is fed from a roll. It prints the sheet and...

    Missing colours in CS6

Just like PANTONE messed with a good thing and "re-organized" the sequence of colors in their PANTONE+ swatch books, they did the same with their digital swatch books. 540 (and all the other colors) are there, you just have to scroll to find them. The "find" field doesn't work that well.
