Hi All. Does anyone have access to any videos that may show prepress production before the advent of desktop publishing? I have a class coming in for a tour in a few weeks. I'd like to be able to show them how this was all done pre-comuter days. Any suggestions as to where to find such videos...

I would try exporting a PDF directly from Quark and bypass FontWizard. We haven't used FontWizard in either versions 8 or 9.

I too have seen artifacts and unwanted elements show up at our HP Indigo RIPs when transparency is used in combination with spot colors. As it's RIP is not APPE-based it does poorly at flattening and gets even worse when it has to do that AND convert spot colors.

Generally speaking, AIT devices are backwards compatible. AIT-2 drives will be able to access AIT-1 media. AIT-3 drives will access both AIT-2 and AIT-1 tapes.

This is due to the fact that there are more impurities in offset litho ink than in Inkjet ink which uses "purer" pigments. the ORIS software is trying to reproduce "real-world" conditions.

IIRC, Illustrator CS2 does not allow for multiple artboards so placing them in a 40-pg InDesign document would really help the sanity of prepress. Now that Illustrator does support multiple artboards, I don't mind designers supplying those either.

Can you use the "Print Booklet..." feature in InDesign to send to your output device? You can apply creep there.

The only problem is that Quark's flattening abilities is AWFUL. I've been burned a few times.

Usually no more than 1/32". But like all devices of this nature it has its good days and bad days. The newer model is better because it uses a camera system for back-up registration.
