    CTP service Contracts

Do you have a backup system if one goes down? Service contracts are very exspensive and if your not having problems they can look like wasted money. The problem of not having one is that you are always on the bottom of the repair list and if something breaks it can lead to significant wait...

    Hot folders in Prinergy Worksop

You need to create a SmartHotFolder that is a Job Creator. To refine you need Hotfolders. Best to create a Template Job that includes a Hotfolder with a process template that refines. When you create your SmartHotFolder base it on the Template job you created that has the Hotfolder in it. Good Luck

    Binding Type, need an explanation....

Usually when talking 'hinge' it refers to scoring on the cover "Hinged Score" which is a score put on the cover 1/4-1/2" from the spine when binding. Some glue pots will have a hinge roller on them that puts a bead of glue 1/8" onto the first and last page, made to strengthen the binding. The...

    Windows Acrobat/PitStop overprint preview issue

Acrobat 8 PS 7 Overprint tab says "overprint" but on the transparency tab "Text knockout" is ticked. Looks as though Transparency wins over Overprint

Enhancing Greyscale Photography for Digital Printing

I would be scanning RGB, adjusting and converting to gray in Photoshop and output using the appropriate profile. I would not let InDesign or Acrobat handle color conversion.

    Epson 7600

We have upgraded our Epson 7600 to a 7800. It is in excellent condition. Always used Epson Ultrachrome Ink. It was used to make proofs for 2, 4 and 5-color covers. Asking $400.00 USD OBO We ran Compose Starproof Software on a MAC to profile it to our Heidelberg SM-74 5-color press and I will...

    Pitstop or Flightcheck?

If you must just choose one I would say Pitstop is the way to go but, keep in mind that Acrobat Pro does have some pretty good preflighting and fix capabilities and, pdfToolbox is also a very good product. John Bandrofchak

    CMYK Blues

Equal values of Cyan and Magenta make purple, lesser % but still equal parts make a lighter shade of purple. Deep blue sky C 90, M 50, The Magenta should be roughly 55% of the Cyan with maybe a percent or two Yellow. With equal amounts of C & M I am curious how they got the front. to look blue

Running negatives from a PDF file

Is it RGB Black 0,0,0 or CMYK 100% K? Both of those should come out 100%. Use a different PPD/Printer. I have a few PPD's that print the same (always screened)

    Who do they report to?

Thanks for the feedback! Thanks for the feedback! Thank you to all who answered, I thought as much. I agree that plate is before press therefore prepress is who they should report to and as automated as the process is, the plate person is still in closer contact with the prepress department...

Do you think the economy will improve in 2009?

Yes but not for many printers Yes but not for many printers I think the economy as we know it will not recover quickly if at all. Printers will have a tougher time as companies shrink or close the advertising budgets will also shrink. Newspapers are already closing and/or limiting printings to...

    Who do they report to?

Just curious as to what department your platemakers (CTP) report to. Recently, it was suggested to me that they should report and be part of the press department. At least here, these people check impo's on screen, release jobs to the platesetter, inspect, stack and label jobs for their...

TrapWise 3.x (8 Seats) and Aldus Color Central 2.5

I have 8 seats of TrapWise 3.x that we do not use anymore. We used Color Central with TrapWise. Not sure what its' worth? I think we paid somewhere around $23,000 new, I don't want to give it away but I would entertain any reasonable offers. John mailto:[email protected]
