Nexus raster trapping vs TotalRip's PDF trapping

I'm right there with you man. Unfortunately, when my boss wants something, he gets just that. No matter how big of a headache it is for me.

Nexus raster trapping vs TotalRip's PDF trapping

Well, I will say this, when we first installed the TotalRIP package and started using the PDF trapper I had TONS of problems with it. However, in 8.5 it started to get a lot better. in 8.6, it's even better than that. All in all, I think it traps correctly about 95% of the time. When it doesn't...

Nexus raster trapping vs TotalRip's PDF trapping

Well, we have both in house and we use the TotalRIP for 98% of our jobs. The few jobs that we have problems with, we send through Nexus RIP. Total RIP is a little bit slower on jobs that have a ton of vectors (lots of type, etc.) but other than that it works pretty well. We're still running...

    Total RIP or Odystar

Well, I can say that we have been using Nexus for a number of years. Unless you want to buy a whole new system, being Odystar, I would just buy the upgrade to TotalRIP.

    Job won't rip...

RE: RE: Every time I get that error I have to kill my interpreter and restart it. Then jobs will flow fine. It mostly happens on our output Nexus box.

    CopyDot Data to nexus

Re: CopyDot Data to nexus The resolutions are probably incorrect for their output device. Ex. Many film setters output at 2540, but our plate setter outputs at 2400. This has caused issues with Copy dot scans for us in the past. If you can create 1-bits with the proper settings for their output...

    Nexus 8.6 rev2 is out!

Re: Nexus 8.6 rev2 is out! We've run into these kinds of problems since CS2 and Nexus 8.4. We've pretty much given up on it. Whenever we run into tables that require trapping we almost always have to recreate everything manually using boxes and strokes instead of a table.

    Softproofs from Nexus

Re: Softproofs from Nexus We had this exact problem when we were using a Raster > Trap > Link workflow. We have since stopped using the Raster side of Nexus for the most part. We create a pdf, send it through the PDF trapper, imposed the trapped pdf and then just distill a pdf from there...

    Odystar and Instant PDF

Re: Odystar and Instant PDF We print to postscript and use Distiller to create the pdf. We distill everything to PDFX-1/A Standards. We're not using Odystar though. We're using Nexus.

    Who Is using WebWay?

Re: Who Is using WebWay? We use it, but our biggest issues are getting past our Corporate Networking policies and convincing customers to use it. It has worked best as a Sales tool. People are awed by the technology, which gets us the business, but they don't really want to use it. Seems to...

    Nexus 8.6 rev 1

Re: Nexus 8.6 rev 1 Kristof, you mentioned that you are having issues with 8.6 rev 1. Can we get any details on the issues that you are running into? In my very limited amount of testing so far I have not run into any major issues that we were not dealing with in 8.5 rev 3....

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. We seem to be having quite a few problems with the Total Rip PDF trapper. I'm wondering if anyone has used a similar product from another company and what they thought of it. All opinions welcome. Thanks.
