    Backup to Tape

40 tapes seems like too many for 10TB. IIRC, LTO3 is 400GB uncompressed and 800 with a good compression ratio. Some other things to think about: Can you split off some of that storage into an archive that uses a different (separate) backup strategy? Some of that 10TB is probably not changing...

    High Fidelity Printing

You might want to get in touch with Esko. Mark Samworth does a talk on their hi-fi software which I checked out once. I think Nabisco (or similar) moved from spot to 6- or 7-color process a couple of years ago. -sean

How to supply Prinergy/Trendsetter user with 1-bit TIFFs

I am somewhat surprised to hear that a tiff downloader is even optional for the Trendsetter. From what I have seen of Print Console it seems like an application designed exclusively around 1-bit tiff input. From what others are saying though I am obviously wrong about that. If your customer's...

Ecofont....real potential to do good? or just another FSC fiasco?

    Epson Pro 9880 Issue

There is a simple way to tell if it is a blocked channel or not. Put the Epson driver on on some computer, if you do not have it already, and in the Utilities section print a manual nozzle check. This won't attempt to clean anything and will use essentially no ink and take about 10 seconds.

    Epson Pro 9880 Issue

The Epsons will band if the nozzles aren't all clear. Whether you see it depends on the artwork, the color that is out, and to some extent I guess the paper. I'd guess the "dot gain" on your bond paper is masking the problem somewhat. Maybe take a look at the temp/humidity in the area where you...

    Oxy-Dry

Long shot here, but does anyone have experience w/ the touch screen controller for an Oxy-Dry air knife setup? Trying to troubleshoot an electrical fault which I am starting to suspect is actually a configuration problem but Baldwin/Oxy-Dry says our equipment is no longer supported and refuses...

    Back lit Canvas?

In addition to the colors washing out you're going to get a pretty strong hue shift from the canvas itself (it isn't very close to white on the back). I think it will be problematic but what you could maybe try is building a profile on the stretched and lit canvas. I think you need something...

    Document Dimensions in ArtCruise Report

Does anyone know if it is possible to have Nexus display document dimensions in an ArtCruise Report? I have setup a simple workflow to email csrs w/ a preflight report for customer-supplied pdfs. Lo-res images, missing fonts, spot colors, etc. It would be useful to see the dimensions of the...

    Pantone Variation

Many thanks to everyone for the insights. I have managed to come up with some data (below). At this point I don't have the actual ink formula, nor do we have batch drawdowns or Lab data from the ink vendor. I'm not sure the issue is really as bad as was initially described to me (and...

    Pantone Variation

Many thanks for the quick responses. Some interesting things to think about. Dimitri - I do not have all of that specific information available, but I will get it and post back. Also I have found out that we are not actually dealing with 283, but a custom blend based on 283. So that is sure to...

    Pantone Variation

Ok guys, forgive me if this question is somewhat vague. I'm neither a pressman nor a prepress guy. But I'm not completely ignorant either! Anyway, we are experiencing visible variation in a job we print regularly. PMS 283 I think? It is "blue". Solids only (100%, no screens). The dry density...

    Concentric screening

I could be wrong. But I think the deal with the curves is that you build your own. However, if you do not want to do that for whatever reason you can send press sheets to Mark and he'll build them for you. We haven't implemented it here; that was my impression of the process though.

Old school and/or New press ?

I thought I heard that Gordo doesn't use a camera; he manually assembles color separations one dot at a time in Photoshop :)

    Screen-Captures

Like Kevin says, the first thing is to make sure you're putting as many pixels on screen as you can. It is really a combination of your display and your video card that determines this. You should be able to get at least 1900x1200 on a modern system; more if you have a nice setup. From there it...

    Networking an Old Inkjet

You can buy a little print server box with a parallel port as shazam suggested if you don't have one laying around. Also you can just share the printer out over the network using the PC it is already attached to. No need to buy any new gear unless you are looking to dump the PC for other reasons.

    JDF: delusions of grandeur

Re: JDF: delusions of grandeur can you drop a jdf (xml) file + pdf in a hotfolder as a way of "posting" to the machine and then parse a log file or read a database to poll for results?

Printheads scraping paper on HP Z6100

Re: Printheads scraping paper on HP Z6100 Do the Zs have a platten gap? If so you could try raising it. Might need to make new profiles though.
