Older wide format to get into photograph printing? 60" HP Z6100?

a single user with a single machine should be able get PrintFactory cheaper than that. But for photography printing, you don't need to spend that much money. You can get perfect results from the software the manufacturer supplies, or for more flexibility and ease of use upgrade to tools like...

    Font Management

RightFont and Typeface both seem like good replacements. Slightly different interface/workflow. Not as feature-rich as FontExplorer but not as bloated either. And both allow libraries to live in dropbox or anywhere so it's easy to sync two machines libraries, something FontExplorer didn't like.

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

many months later update... nobody's sure what the issue is and they can't replicate my problem. So I'm running PrintFactory's RIP on the older macbook air, I remote into that machine or switch my monitor over to it when needed, but mostly I can run PrintFactory's Layout app on my primary M1...

Thinking of moving from Epson to Canon... any suggestions

Have not had that experience at all. Quick phone call to canon and I've gotten excellent technical help within minutes. Printheads easy to swap, not sure what other maintenance might be so hard, or what restrictive means.

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

Latest update is they'll have full 4100 support shortly, and hopefully have any M1 bugs worked out.

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

There's finally some new information...it's not just me. Other people using M1 machines are having the same problem. They're working on it, hopefully they'll release an update soon fixing the M1 bug and perhaps including full 4100 support.

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

That is the conventional wisdom...but it doesn't seem to work for me! I'm still troubleshooting it and Printfactory are trying to replicate the problem but cannot. I've tried 2 macbooks, one an i7, one an M1. I've tried a lot of different troubleshooting steps but maybe not every single one. I'm...

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

Responded in the other thread about also using Mirage, and still working to get PrintFactory going for it's additional features.

Wide format RIP suggestions for home use?

I bought Mirage, especially on the recommendation of Les Walking, who's youtube clips, and a seminar I took, have been very educational. He also made some suggestions for some workaround for how I can certify GRACoL proofs outside of Mirage. I plan on using Mirage until/unless I can get...

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

Interesting, I wasn't familiar with Onyx Go. ONYX Go Plus looks like it might do anything I'd need. I can't tell though, would you need Onyx ColorCheck to certify to standards, or is that part of Onyx?

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

spoke about this a bit on the original RIP thread: https://printplanet.com/threads/another-rip-question-which-for-osx.291422/

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

Thanks for your response and advice. I have watched your movie after seeing your posts here. I'll have to watch it again! I had thought about using non-OSX software when somebody recommended Fiery XF as a digital front end, but didn't want to buy and manage another computer (the PC) and wasn't...

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

Would you say device link profiles are only useful for those doing CMYK proofing? I have a Canon 4100. I use it to print photography/fine-art, but want to also be able to do proofing, make my own profiles etc. Struggling a bit with figuring out what RIP or layout type program to get for OSX...

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

AND.....after all that, apparently PrintFactory doesn't support the 4100 yet, just the 4100s. They support the 4000 and the 4100s. Looking at ImagePrint Black again as well now.

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

My question was answered by Printfactory. I didn't understand how to reconcile the use of devicelink profiles in a RIP with the ability to soft-proof in Photoshop and Illustrator. Printfactory's creation of ICC profiles as well seems good enough for me. My point about the inkjet was just to...

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

GMG no longer owns/runs Printfactory fwiw. I think I understand what you're saying, but don't think it's relevant to my intended usage, which is just using device link profiles to print to a 12-color inkjet (Canon).

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

one answer to my old question...I asked this of Printfactory and their response was: "Unlike typical device link system PrintFactory calibrator application allows you to export a soft proof ICC profile from the device link profile you are using. That can be used in photoshop etc." which seems...

    Soft Proofing/Device Link Profiles questions

I have some questions about soft proofing. While looking into RIPs I've seen a lot about the benefits of Device Link Profiles. It seemed like a smart way to profile your papers, but then it occurred to me that you wouldn't be able to do any soft-proofing in Photoshop for instance. You could...

Wide format RIP suggestions for home use?

I posted a similar question not too long ago discussing RIPs for OSX. https://printplanet.com/threads/another-rip-question-which-for-osx.291422/ Research took me around in circles but I'm circling back to Printfactory/Proofmaster which is quite affordable, especially if you do the software...

(Another) RIP question, which for OSX?

OK...now I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between Printfactory and Proofmaster. I was under the impression that Printfactory Production had more features, but Proofmaster is several hundred dollars a year more expensive. I'm less concerned about the price than I am about what the...
