    Replacing Offsett Press

:)Thank you! I found it...it was in a little bit different spot on my Savin 3590DNP but knowing that I was looking for "line density" helped. It was under printing preferences>paper/quality> advanced and line density was almost at the bottom of the drop down list. I noticed there are two...

    Replacing Offsett Press

The thing I don't like about toner based copies is that the paper gets curled and wavy with the heat. On the duplicator it's ink on paper and the sheets come out nice and flat like offset. In good times, there is a place for duplicator, digital copier and offset press. But with this economy...

    Replacing Offsett Press

We had the technician install the Postscript. I don't know if you can do it yourself. IMO the Postscript RIP is necessary in print for pay situations. It vastly improves the output especially the halftones. We have had our Savin 3590 duplicator (same as Ricoh HQ 9000) since May 2009 and it...

    Paper rippling

One of my dislikes with digital copiers/presses is that the paper ripples & curls after imprinting. Some papers having many waves .... makes letterhead and padded jobs look especially bad. I haven't found much difference in the offset papers and the "digital" papers.... but maybe I haven't...

How did you get where you are? - Poll

Went to college....majoring in the sciences. Switched to TV-Radio-Advertising major in 2nd year. Worked in a retail furniture store in advertising for a few years after graduating. Mom & Dad opened a quick print franchise shop in mid 1979. I moved back home and began working with them in...

    Replacing Offsett Press

Thanks for pointing out the C900. And I am sure I would be very happy with the C900....but there is a $100,000+ difference in price between the HQ9000 and the C900. In this economy I'm not sure that is where I need to be at this time. It's a difference between "Want & Need" . Sue

    Replacing Offsett Press

Thanks TJ...your report helps a lot. We are PC based so I wasn't going to opt for the PS3...maybe it would be a good idea to ask some more questions on that. As I have said previously, we mostly do forms, NCR, cardstock, some letterhead and envelopes. I figure the Ricoh duplicator can take...

Best way to do sequential numbering for raffle tickets, etc.

 Whoops that looks very familiar..... Auto Number is the one I use not Numbering Machine! That's what I get for not looking and answering from home. I've done 2 up, 4 up, 6 up and 8 up double numbered tickets with no problem on my Canon 3200 copier. Sue

Best way to do sequential numbering for raffle tickets, etc.

:) Yes, it is a pain to reprint one or two sheets if you have closed the file. I've learned to leave the file open on the desktop until the tickets are finished. This way if the perf, or cutter messes up I can easily reprint those ticket numbers without re-aligning the art & numbering. Sue

Best way to do sequential numbering for raffle tickets, etc.

I use a little program called "Number It" I purchased on E-bay a couple of years ago. It will print the ticket (from bmp file) and number on the Canon 3200 in one pass. BW or Color. Nice little program and well worth the $50-80 price. The learning curve was a bit steep but once I got the hang...

    Replacing Offsett Press

NCR forms, card stock, letterhead & envelopes are about all we run on the press now. Most newsletters are small runs that go on the copy machines. This is a very small shop - currently 3 full-time & 1 part time - in a small 30,000 market with too many other print shops in town. Along...

    Replacing Offsett Press

:( I look at it as survival....I can't be everything to every customer. Right now I have to get lean. I have an outdated 2 color press and camera; plus a full time press operator in a 3 day a week job. I don't see the offset part of our business increasing any in the near future. When the...

    Replacing Offsett Press

Are the Riso units similar to the Ricoh? The click charges are to cover service maintenance & parts. We would provide our own inks & masters. I am wondeing if I need a service contract or if pay per service would be a more cost effective route. Also, the different color drums are...

    Replacing Offsett Press

I own a small print/copy shop and have one 20+ year old 2 color Hamada offset press & Itek camera....a Canon 3200 color copier, BW Copier & HP 5500 wide format printer. Over the past 4-5 years we have experienced a 10-15% drop in the offset part of the business. Right now, with the economy as...

    Introduce yourself!

Hello, I feel a bit like a little fish in a big pond. I own a small quick print/copy shop in a small market (30,000) with too many print shops. Mom & Dad opened this shop in 1979...a KK franchise....the franchise contract ended and I elected to go independent in 2004. We have one 20+ year old...
