HP 5000 with Paper Plates Any Recommendations?

We're using an HP5100. I set "Configure Fuser" to YES, then you can change the fuser settings(Low, Normal, High) for each paper type. The Vellum setting is not as hot as HOT. Guess I could've just used "ROUGH". Set "Tray 1 Mode" to "Cassette". Put a plate in the manual feed tray and print...

    HP 5000

Mattbeals, HP says Vellum is not the hottest setting. Hot is the hottest. You may get more impressions if you image on the Hot setting.

Did you use vellum because it is the hottest setting?

I have gone with a used HP 5100 and polyester plates and getting excellent results, so far in our 1 color shop. Total investment is about $525 for the HP and a box of plates. No changes on the press, either!

HP 5000 with Paper Plates Any Recommendations?

That's right according to them. Someone mentioned, somewhere, running polyester plates through a laminator to fuse the toner because their laser was not hot enough.

Daniel, I'm just getting started in this. Where do you get the MSI toner cartridges?

what to buy for a low volume ctp platemaker

We do a lot of jobs in the range of 500 to 3500. So, if I can get polyester to work, I'll be in good shape. We are testing with a Gestetner(Ricoh) laser right now. It'll do 11x17 max, so it's just for testing. We clamp one edge of the plate and stick the trailing corners down with some...

what to buy for a low volume ctp platemaker

Ritter, What goes wrong with the xante platemaker 5 that was so bad. I'm a low volume user of about 600 plates a year, 1 color and no high quality demands.

what to buy for a low volume ctp platemaker

I did a little research on the HP5100 vs HP5200. HP 5100 specs: Transparencies used in the printer must be able to withstand 400° F (205° C), the printer’s maximum temperature, for 0.1 second. HP 5200 specs: Transparencies used in the printer must be able to withstand 200°C (392°F), which...

Global warming - the other side of the argument

Now, I fear that the politicians are getting ready to screw up the economy more than ever and tax us based on the aforementioned "theory" of global warming. They are using the methods described in "The First Global Revolution". We'd better get to work countering this political movement!

Global warming - the other side of the argument

Climate change is going to happen no matter what you do. It has been going on since the earth was born. The Vostok ice core data shows a climate history of about 450,000 years with warm periods of about 5 to 25k years about every 100,000 years. We are approaching the end of this one that...

    Back up And Archiving ....ideas

Whatever your backup method, just make sure you have multiple redundant copies of your data on reliable media. Backup media will fail at times. One primary thing to backup is who owes you money. I backup all computers(employee created data only) to a backup server(any network accessible...

    JetPlate

InkjetCTP_waste_of_money, You said: I'm very new to this and I wondering what is a good laser plate setter for a small shop printing mostly 1 color and occasionally 2 spot colors. Never duo-tone or 4 color process. I've got a Ryobi(18.5x12.75) and a Davidson Perfecta(16x17.5). We only used...

iCtP, I'm afraid VIM JT is vaporware at this point. I just don't want to commit to a $25k system and then have them show up on the market 2 months later. I'll post any news I get on them.

iCtP, Thanks for the very helpful input. I feel enlightened. I'm waiting to see if VIM Technologies is going to get moving with their attractive JT product. If they take too long, though, I'll probably go with G&J. I am currently getting ripped-off by a local print shop for my plates, but I...

You're right about CorelDraw, but the printer driver software might have that function. What does 35% density mean? Opacity? Not coverage. If it's film thickness, what's 100%? Is that the name of a setting in your RIP software?

Rip Rip Maybe I should rephrase this ... I understand the need for a RIP if printing multiple colors where the dots must align correctly. But, if I am only printing 1 color and have no need for dot alignment, why do I need a RIP? Alex
