    Need advice on cutter automation

My shop is about to buy a cutter to replace one that's just gone kaput. We are hoping to implement some automation with JDF or CIP3/4. Our new Sierra RIP can natively output JDF, but not CIP3/4 without a separate licen$e. My understanding is that the cutter (Polar 92X) accepts CIP3 info, but...

PC RIP software recovery software solution

We are a small commercial print shop, and money is so tight right now. We are still using a RIP solution that's 8 years old. It's Screen's Trueflow 3.02 TF215 release, installed on a Dell Poweredge 1600SC, running Windows 2000 Server, Service Pack 4. We're using this PC RIP to drive a a...

i1 Pro not recognized by Matchprint Proofpro

We drive our Epson 7600 with Kodak's Matchprint ProofPro RIP v1.0. I've had to load this RIP software on a Windows XP SP3 PC. The RIP software works fine, and the i1 Diagnostics app I just downloaded from X-Rite's website tells me that the i1 Pro device (connected via USB) is passing all the...

Has anyone seen textlines do this upon RIPing in TrueFlow?

I've attached a couple of screenshots of OutlinePDFs that came from PDF files we RIPed in TrueFlow. You can see that some of the text lines have goofed up and have compressed and squished together. Anybody seen such an occurrence?

Unable to use Acrobat files later than version 6 w/TF 3.02

I'm running Trueflow 3 v3.02. I know, I know, it's a fossil. Hey, upgrades aren't cheap! Anyway, when we first installed it, we were using Acrobat Pro 6. When Acrobat 7 shipped, I upgraded and found that any PDF file which I opened, altered, and saved in Acrobat 7 would instantly abort at...

What's your criteria for deciding when to upgrade DTP apps?

We're currently running two seats of CS3 Design Standard, and are trying to decide when/if to upgrade to CS4. We've only had two clients try to submit native files in ID-CS4 and I just had them provide PDF-X/1a files. But sooner or later, it will be more hassle than it's worth and I'll need...
