    Printing Solid Blacks

Hi Magnus, Yes, Prepress has tried this for us as well as using four color black. Cyan alone still shows defects sometimes.

    Printing Solid Blacks

I wanted to see if I could get some advice here. Our designers are starting to design pages in our magazines that are full bleed solid black. Running on a 38" heat set web we have problems keeping these solid black pages hickey and spot free. We've adjusted tack levels of our black ink, run at...

    Evolution of Color Proofs

Thanks! Putting the manufacturers name in the Google search did pull up some better results than what I was finding earlier. Still not pulling up any videos and I'm hopeful that someone somewhere will pull something out of their archives...

    Evolution of Color Proofs

Likewise. I thought it would be easy to find content online but seeing how the majority of these proofing systems died long before YouTube was born it seems like an impossible task to find anything that shows how we used to make proofs. I did reach out to Frank and I'll let you know what he says.

    Evolution of Color Proofs

Thanks Gordo. I do have book cases full of graphic arts books and I can't find anything either. My online searches are coming up empty as well apart from one video of someone making a Colorart. Got your PM, thanks! I'll check with Frank and see what he has.

    Evolution of Color Proofs

I never had the "pleasure" of making Chromalins although used to watch the guys mixing the powder and making them.

    Evolution of Color Proofs

Thanks for the replies everyone! I also started working with film and making proofs when I was 16 - making bluelines and color keys and yes, I remember the pain of screwing up the last color down and having to start all over. I'm finding it impossible to find any photos or videos of these...

    Evolution of Color Proofs

Hi All, I'm trying to put together a presentation for my staff of earlier proofing systems and I'm looking for any pics or videos of "historical" proofing systems - Chromalin, Colorart, Final Proof, Match Print, Color Keys, etc. Does anybody have anything they can share? Or links to videos...

    Paper Gloss Levels

Yes, I pretty much came to the same conclusion. Haven't been able to find anything online which gives any sort of a standard or guideline. Seems like mills have their own percentages that they follow. I've reached out to our mill rep to get the listing from them. Thanks for responding!

    Fuji JPress 540W and XMF

We just installed a Fuji JPress 540W ink jet press and so far we are very happy with it. There is however an annoyance we found whereby the print quantity in XMF is limited to 10,000 copies and so far Fuji has not been able to resolve this. Anybody have a fix for this?

Two Agfa Elantrix 125 HX Processors for Sale

Hello. My shop is in the process of switching over to Fuji plates and I have two Agfa plate processors which I am trying to sell. They are both in very good condition, about six years old and can be crated up and ready to ship within a few days of purchase. Attached are some photos. If anyone...

Hi Erik, Thanks very much for the input. My figures of 5,000 and 3,000 are sheets/signatures.

    Standards for the Pressroom

Hello, I am currently doing a top to bottom review of my pressroom efficiency and wanted to see if anyone had information as to what the industry standards are for make ready times on both a sheetfed (we currently run a 5 color + coater XL 105 and a heatset web (6 color). Both presses have...

    GLV Definition

Hi All, Can anyone please explain to me what a GLV is in very simple, layman's terms? I've tried a Google search but the web sites are very technical and for someone who has spent most of his life in a pressroom the descriptions that I have found online are way above my head. Thanks.

Anyway to speed up ink drying?

Thanks to all for your replies. Sheets have been sitting all weekend under our shops AC units and they are definitely better. We did seal the sheets with an aqueous coating and Alois - I'm not sure what running the sheets back through with an overprint varnish would do for us. The ink is going...

Anyway to speed up ink drying?

Hi All, Just printed a very intricate job - four color on top of silver foil which now has to get three more passes of foil, lamination, spot UV, emboss and die cutting. Printed the job about 36 hours ago and the ink is still too wet to stamp. We have been doing extensive testing on this...

Any good used Heidelberg press dealers?

We are in Los Angeles. I've contacted some used press dealers both in the US and overseas. We are ready to buy once we find the right press.
