I would take a look at the Ricoh 7X00 series. Running CMYK over silver gives you an endless number of metallic colors. You may find that it fits well into your product offerings.

I had a similar issue with a 7800. Epson told me to power down and unplug it for 10 minutes before powering back up. It worked. EDIT: Power up with the new cartridge in place. I also recall that they said once done, you can't use an older cartridge in that slot anymore.

We use Walker Supply in Maryland. Don't know how they compare. The printers are American engineered, but made in China like most everything else. You could try the wholesalers on Alibaba that sell the printers.
