How to explain "overprint" to dumb clients?

This is by far the best explanation on this topic that I came across sometime ago: Understanding Overprint It also has some analogies that might help. All the best : )

Font management - Mac vs. Windows

I think this is not the right forum to ask this question but if by device you mean which platform, then definitely macOS is better than Windows. Glyphs, FontLab and RoboFont are the most popular pieces of type-design software nowadays.

    EX 180 vs. EX-i 180

Thank you kdw75, This I realised while researching as I have been for more replies. Your suggestion does help and it also confirms my insecurities about the embedded Fiery : ) Thank you Puch, We have test driven Callas pdfToolbox and indeed that would solve many issues until we can afford an...

    EX 180 vs. EX-i 180

Thank you so much! More questions: Are there any ways to overcome mainly those two incapabilities of embedded server? e.g. installing the APPE Engine on the server etc. and if yes, what could be possible implications of it in all possible manner. Thanks

Font management - Mac vs. Windows

The native macOS app Font Book does a reasonable job of font management, if you do not have extremely serious font management issues. It allows you to create as many font libraries as you wish that you can activate/deactivate to avoid font conflicts. To create a Library you do not need to...

    Transparency effects printing issues

Hi Puch, Is it possible for you to share some sources where we can learn more about the differences of PDF/X-1 and PDF/X-4 etc that you have mentioned. Thanks in advance!

    Transparency effects printing issues

Is PDF/X-4 not a better standard, since it supports more features such as transparency and some RGB etc.? If I understand it correctly, it will allow such elements to be embedded properly in the PDF which in turn will allow intended results in print as one wishes: What is PDF/X-4 | How to create...

Easiest way to fix broken/corrupt/weird PDFs?

I can endorse Puch's reply. I have also been an Affinity user since the beginning. Affinity products do ask for fonts used in PDFs that most of the time open correctly in Acrobat/Reader and Illustrator without any warnings. Callas pdfToolbox Desktop is a good solution for you.

How to verify boxed genuine Xerox consumables; and inspect them after unboxing?

Thanks AP90 and Possumgal! I have already started a negotiation for FPSMA. Though it would be nice to know more about the parts of the machine that we are using.

I can't see such stamp or code anywhere on the box.

How to verify boxed genuine Xerox consumables; and inspect them after unboxing?

Thanks pippip. No. We didn't know our volume beforehand so we didn't sign up for FPSMA yet. The toner boxes do have holographic stickers on them with a QR code, but scanning the code only gives the same alpha-numeric value that is already printed on the stickers.

How to verify boxed genuine Xerox consumables; and inspect them after unboxing?

Hello Versant Community, We are a fairly new digital printshop and own a brand new Versant 180, purchased from an authorised dealer. We received the first set of replacement toner cartridges a couple of months ago and started replacing them as required. However, two of those cartridges turned...

Mac files won't work in hot folder

Do not wish to start the OS wars but as PricelineNegotiator mentioned, you should check the windows side. In a multi-platform environment such issues mostly arise on Windows and not a Unix-based OS such as macOS, Linux etc.

OTF font works fine on the Macs but not PCs - "does not appear to be a valid font"

There is a chance that the said font only has a macOS binary. Whilst, most OTF and TTF work happily on Macs (there are exceptions though), only Windows TTF and OTF work with Windows. A macOS TTF will still show as TTF on Windows, but will not work. You need to get help from an advanced Windows...

Who is still using Acrobat Distiller?

The Adobe Acrobat Distiller is an application to be used by other applications as a service. It converts PostScript descriptions into PDF. On most Macs pretty much all programs can convert/export other file formats into PDF without leaving the program. That is done through Acrobat Distiller. For...
